Job description

Help us make a big green dent in the universe. We're on a mission to drive the global renewable energy revolution, and we need many more people to help us make our vision a reality.

Octopus Energy Generation (OEGEN) is a leader in sourcing, investing in, and managing a wide range of utility-scale renewable energy assets. As we continue to expand our investment base, we are dedicated to building a diverse team that reflects the communities we serve. Currently, we manage a global portfolio of over £7 billion in renewable energy assets.

We are committed to delivering best-in-class responsible investment activity, offering like-minded investors the means and products to invest their capital sustainably. It is our ambition to change the entire energy lifecycle and make every green electron matter, delivering the best outcomes for customers, investors, the environment and society, accelerating the transition to net zero.

The Development Portfolio Management Team at OEGEN is responsible for delivering our development investments and works hand in hand with developers to deliver on the investment cases in changing commercial and market dynamics.

Your mission will be to make our large development portfolio across Europe huge success. It spans different maturity stages (from early-stage land to ready to build) and five countries.

We are looking for someone who is very commercially minded, understands renewables development, loves data and communicates clearly with the team and senior stakeholders. The board directors and fund managers will rely on you to support them in decision making and value creation for portfolio companies.

You will be in charge of value maximisation of projects through their development journey (from early stage to ready to build) and lead on exits.

The ideal candidate will be available to start within 4 weeks.

What you'll do
  • You will be a key person responsible for modelling renewable energy projects, joint ventures and Top Co business plans.
  • Maintain and adapt financial models to monitor evaluation and financial performance of investments, conducting regular assessments of overall portfolio performance against objectives and reporting progress to OEGEN fund managers.
  • You will support the commercial management of multiple development pipelines, working with a team of portfolio managers and developers to track performance against investment cases and agreed milestones.
  • Support managers and fund managers on value maximisation initiatives for each development project, including exit timing, sale preparation, revenue contracting, last mile development and other activities, ensuring optimal returns to investors on exit. You will drive the exit process of projects and platforms at different stage of their life.
  • Monitor and interrogate project progress, budgets and KPIs, identifying and escalating risks in a timely manner, and provide briefings and solutions to decision makers (such as board directors and fund managers).
Governance Oversight
  • Support in implementing and maintaining governance frameworks across portfolio companies, ensuring compliance with internal standards and external regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with developers on the preparation of board packs, investment committee materials and other operational review documentation to support senior management.
  • Track compliance with internal processes and external regulatory requirements, escalating gaps where identified.
What you'll need
  • Strong financial modelling skills (DCFs, business plans). Proficient in financial modelling principles, accounting, project management, data and reporting.
  • Strong commercial acumen and experience in managing investments, assets and/or development pipelines against investment objectives. Experience in analysing complex data, tracking KPIs, and preparing structured reporting for internal stakeholders.
  • Be a pro‑active and self‑starting senior team member who has a strong sense of ownership, “can do” attitude, strong team spirit and ability to grow team members.
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills, adept at building relationships and presenting analysis to a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Preferably but not mandatory experience in the sale of renewable energy assets (development, in construction or operational stage).
