Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the finance team as an Assistant Divisional Accountant. The role is within Corporate Service department reporting directly to the Finance Manager and Head of Finance (Corporate Service). The post holder will provide support to the Finance Manager in the delivery of financial and statutory obligations of the Trust's Financial Management function. Specific responsibility for providing financial management information and support to departmental budgets. The post holder will be a key member of the Trust's Finance Department and contribute to the delivery of its overall objectives. The post holder will participate in the preparation of robust financial forecasts and will work towards agreed objectives and deadlines. The post holder will act independently in the management of day to day work and may provide training to non-finance managers where required.

Responsibilities
  • Develop relationships across directorates and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide financial information and advice to budget holders, routinely and in response to ad-hoc requests.
  • Support maintenance and reconciliation of recurring and non-recurring budgetary positions for financial and manpower budgets on a monthly basis.
  • Monitor expenditure trends and budgetary performance, identifying significance for budget holders.
  • Assist Directorates to identify and achieve cost reduction programmes.
  • Provide advice on current performance and trends, with forecasts of future trends based on options identified by budget holders and management.
  • Provide training support to non-finance managers as part of the Trust's training and development programme; contribute to training and development of staff within the finance function.
  • Manage finance support staff within the Divisional Structure and across divisions, coordinating information to enable effective workload management.
  • Support the Divisional Finance Team in providing financial information, analysis and advice to budget holders, meeting internal and external reporting requirements in an accurate, timely, and relevant manner.
  • Contribute to the completion of ad hoc and monthly statutory returns.
  • Collate budget proposals within the Trust Business Plan and advise on validity and affordability of budget plans.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Postgraduate diploma or equivalent; educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Desirable criteria: Training towards CCAB professional qualification; previous experience in a management accounts environment; evidence of innovative analysis of complex financial and performance data.
  • NHS financial management experience; knowledge of Financial planning, Budgetary strategy & control, NHS financial regime, costing, and providing financial support to budget holders.
  • Corporate Finance Reporting; evidence of achievement at a senior level in NHS finance; highly numerate; experience dealing with complex change issues; understanding of NHS structures and acute hospital environment.
  • Ability to lead and motivate staff; decisive with HR policy knowledge; willingness to work flexibly; commitment to staff development.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence; professional and objective; able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Desirable: Liverpool NHS context familiarity and ability to adapt to flexible working arrangements.
