Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the finance team as an Assistant Divisional Accountant. The role is within the Corporate Service department and reports directly to the Finance Manager and Head of Finance (Corporate Service). You will support the development of our vision for world‑class finance services, ensuring the Trust receives the best financial support possible.

Responsibilities
  • Provide support to the Finance Manager in the delivery of financial and statutory obligations of the Trust’s Financial Management function.
  • Supply financial management information and support for departmental budgets.
  • Collaborate with other finance colleagues and budget holders to discuss complex financial queries and issues.
  • Prepare robust financial forecasts in partnership with the Finance Manager and Head of Finance.
  • Act independently in day‑to‑day work while meeting agreed objectives and deadlines.
  • Maintain and reconcile monthly budgetary positions for finance and manpower budgets.
  • Monitor expenditure trends and budgetary performance, providing insight to management.
  • Assist directorates in cost‑reduction initiatives and business planning.
  • Provide training and support to non‑finance managers as part of the Trust’s development programme.
  • Manage finance support staff across divisions and coordinate workload effectively.
  • Deliver ad‑hoc and monthly statutory returns accurately and timely.
  • Collate budget proposals within the Trust Business Plan and advise on their feasibility.
Qualifications
  • Essential: Postgraduate diploma or equivalent; educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Desirable: Training towards a CCAB professional qualification.
Experience
  • Essential: Previous experience in a management accounts environment; evidence of innovative analysis of complex financial and performance data.
  • Desirable: NHS financial management experience.
Knowledge
  • Essential: Knowledge of financial planning, budgetary strategy & control, NHS Trust financial regime, costing, financial support to budget holders, and Payment by Results.
  • Desirable: Corporate Finance Reporting; evidence of senior NHS finance achievement.
Skills
  • Essential: Highly numerate; experience with complex change issues; understanding of NHS structures; acute hospital environment knowledge; ability to lead & motivate staff; decisive judgement.
