Job summary

A thriving manufacturing SME in Sheffield seeks a Financial Controller to lead the finance team and manage financial reporting. The successful candidate will have a background as a qualified accountant with senior finance experience, ideally within the manufacturing sector. Qualifications

  • Qualified accountant (ACCA/CIMA/ACA) with experience in a senior finance role within an SME organisation.
  • Experience within the manufacturing sector would be highly desirable.
  • Experience working within a privately owned/owner managed or family-owned business between £20m and £50m turnover would be highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the finance team, ensuring accurate and timely preparation of monthly management accounts and financial statements.
  • Manage the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes.
  • Monitor cash flow, working capital, and cost control.
  • Oversee all statutory reporting, tax compliance, and liaison with auditors.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures.
  • Partner with operations to provide financial insights.
  • Support strategic planning and investment decisions with financial modelling.
  • Drive system and process improvements, including ERP enhancements.
  • Report financial performance and key KPIs to the Board.
  • Further development and refining of the costing system.
  • Ongoing development and management of the stock ordering processes.

Axon Moore are supporting a thriving manufacturing SME in Sheffield to recruit their Financial Controller.

This is a well-established, owner managed business with a proud history that has ambitious plans to develop further markets and revenue streams.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the business as Financial Controller, with a direct route to becoming Finance Director in the near future.

You will be supported by a highly experienced executive team, as well as a highly capable finance function.

Key responsibilities
  • Lead and develop the finance team, ensuring accurate and timely preparation of monthly management accounts and financial statements
  • Manage the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes, working closely with department heads and operational teams
  • Monitor cash flow, working capital, and cost control, and ensure effective treasury management
  • Oversee all statutory reporting, tax compliance (VAT, corporation tax, etc.), and liaison with auditors
  • Develop and maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard company assets
  • Partner with operations to provide financial insights on manufacturing costs, inventory, pricing, and margin analysis
  • Support strategic planning and investment decisions with detailed financial modelling and scenario analysis
  • Drive system and process improvements, including ERP enhancements and automation of financial processes
  • Report financial performance and key KPIs to the Board and assist in strategic decision-making
  • Further development and refining of the costing system and information
  • Ongoing development and management of the stock ordering processes
