Job description
Financial Controller | £75,000 - £85,000 | Preston | Private Equity Backed Services Business

Axon Moore is pleased to be representing a new client in Preston as they seek to create a new role for a talented Financial Controller to join them.

Our client is a Private Equity backed business that is anticipating a significant event in the near future, within 24 to 36 months. The Finance Director is looking to appoint a strong Financial Controller who can free up the Finance Director to focus on more strategic responsibilities over this period. The new FC will ideally take responsibility for the wider finance team and make it their own.

The Financial Controller will:

  • Stabilise, assess and strengthen the existing finance team
  • Oversee qualified staff in the production of management accounts and guide process and control improvement
  • Manage a medium sized team of transactional finance and billing staff. They need a confident hands‑on approach with cashflow, payroll etc until the team can develop
  • Work with the FD and investors to begin building a data room ahead of a future transaction
  • Identify and complete a range of value‑adding initiatives around the business and create a team capable of delivering this value
  • Deputise on behalf of the FD where necessary, especially in the final 12 months leading up to the exit

This is a critical role for the FD to hire. They are looking to hire a strong candidate that can be a support, advisor and strong team player alongside them over the next few years. It'll certainly be a career defining role given the wider context of the business.
