Overview

An exciting opportunity for a qualified Financial Controller to lead the finance function of a fast growing specialist business based in Tunbridge Wells, West Kent. Reporting directly to the CFO, the role offers strategic oversight of financial operations, compliance, and team development during a period of growth and transformation.

Description

The Financial Controller is responsible for managing the organization's accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and regulatory compliance. This role plays a key leadership position in ensuring the integrity of financial data, supporting strategic planning, and providing critical financial insight to senior management. The Financial Controller will oversee budgeting, forecasting, audit coordination, and drive improvements in financial systems and processes.

As the Financial Controller you will be responsible for managing the organisations accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls and regulatory compliance. This is a key leadership position and is critical to ensuring the integrity of the financial data, supporting the strategic planning and providing key financial insight to the SLT.

The role will oversee budgeting, forecasting, audit co-ordination and will drive improvements to systems and processes.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee all accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets.
  • Deliver accurate and timely financial statements and reports under IFRS/GAAP.
  • Lead budgeting and forecasting processes aligned with strategic goals.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory, tax, and audit requirements.
  • Liaise with external auditors, tax consultants, and legal advisors to ensure audit readiness and regulatory compliance.
  • Establish, document, and monitor internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accuracy of financial records.
  • Oversee cash flow, banking relationships, and treasury management.
  • Provide financial insight and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Manage and mentor a team of finance and accounting professionals.
  • Evaluate and enhance financial systems and tools to improve reporting, scalability, and operational efficiency.
Profile

The successful candidate for this key Financial Controller role should meet the below criteria:

  • Be a fully Qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Have significant experience in finance leadership / controller positions
  • Possess strong technical knowledge of IFRS/GAAP and UK tax regulations. International exposure would be a benefit
  • You must be technically strong as well as commercially minded, detail-oriented, and confident in a fast-paced setting.
  • Proven track record of managing audits and improving financial processes.
  • Experience of working in a fast paced, Private Equity backed or investment led business would be advantageous.

Please note - this role is based in the office in Tunbridge Wells 5 days per week
