Job summary

Insite Finance is seeking a hands-on Financial Controller to lead the day-to-day finance function within a growing SME in the technology and engineering sector. You will partner with the senior leadership team to improve reporting, tighten controls and provide commercial insight.

Based in Thame with hybrid working, the role offers broad scope across planning, cash, forecasting and board reporting, with international exposure and multi-currency accounting as the company expands globally.

Qualifications

• ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified or nearing qualification with relevant experience.
• Strong management accounting and financial control experience.
• Experience in SME or hands-on environment.
• Experience with international trading and multi-currency environments.
• Stock, inventory or manufacturing experience would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Producing monthly management accounts, budgets and rolling forecasts.
• Developing Board reporting, KPIs and management information.
• Managing cash flow, working capital and balance sheet controls.
• Analysing margins and profitability across customers, products and projects.
• Supporting pricing, investment decisions and commercial business cases.
• Improving financial systems, processes and reporting automation.
• Overseeing AP, AR, credit control and payroll.
• Managing year-end, VAT, audit and external adviser relationships.
• Supporting international operations and multi-currency accounting.
• Developing stock, inventory and operational reporting.

The role

As Financial Controller, you'll lead the day‑to‑day finance function while becoming a key commercial partner to the wider business.

You'll be responsible for:

• Producing monthly management accounts, budgets and rolling forecasts
• Developing Board reporting, KPIs and management information
• Managing cash flow, working capital and balance sheet controls
• Analysing margins and profitability across customers, products and projects
• Supporting pricing, investment decisions and commercial business cases
• Improving financial systems, processes and reporting automation
• Overseeing AP, AR, credit control and payroll
• Managing year‑end, VAT, audit and external adviser relationships
• Supporting international operations and multi‑currency accounting
• Developing stronger stock, inventory and operational reporting

The company operates within technology and engineering, so experience around stock, physical products, manufacturing or project‑led environments would be particularly useful.

What we're looking for

You'll ideally be ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified, although someone approaching qualification with the right experience could also be considered.

• Strong management accounting and financial control experience
• Experience within an SME or similarly hands‑on environment
• Good commercial analysis and financial modelling skills
• Confidence working with senior non‑finance stakeholders
• Strong Excel skills and experience improving financial reporting
• Exposure to international trading and multi‑currency environments
• Stock, inventory or manufacturing experience would be advantageous
• Experience improving finance systems or ERP processes would also be useful

This Financial Controller position offers considerably more scope than simply running month‑end. You'll have the opportunity to shape how finance operates, improve the quality of commercial information and build processes that support continued growth.
