Job summary

First Response Finance is seeking a Financial Controller to lead financial control, reporting, governance and operations. Reporting to the Finance Director, you will ensure robust financial stewardship, provide accurate reporting, and guide a high-performing finance team in support of growth and customer outcomes.

The role requires ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualification, extensive post-qualification experience, and strong Excel and stakeholder skills.

Qualifications

• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification required.
• Significant post-qualified experience in financial control, reporting or finance management.
• Experience leading, coaching and developing finance teams.
• Establish ownership, responsibilities and service standards across Finance processes.
• Strong understanding of financial controls, statutory reporting and external audit processes.
• Strong stakeholder management and business partnering skills.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Able to work a minimum of 37.5 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting.
• Own the month-end and year-end close processes with robust controls.
• Lead, coach and develop the Finance team.
• Oversee portfolio accounting: revenue recognition, impairment, provisioning and interest income.
• Provide oversight of IFRS 9 reporting and provisioning methodologies.
• Lead external audit activities and statutory/regulatory reporting.
• Provide commercial insight and decision support through robust financial analysis.
• Oversee treasury, funding and cash management.
• Drive continuous improvement across finance processes and reporting.

• A starting salary of £75,000 - £80,000.

• Working Monday to Friday and hybrid working with two days per week in our Nottingham office.

About the Role

Reporting to the Finance Director, the Financial Controller is responsible for leading the financial control, reporting, governance and operational finance activities of the business. You'll ensure robust financial stewardship, provide accurate and insightful reporting, and lead a high-performing Finance team that supports effective decision-making, sustainable growth and strong customer outcomes. Acting as deputy to the Finance Director when required, you'll play a key role in shaping the future direction of the Finance function.

Essential Requirements

• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification.

• Significant post-qualified experience within Financial Control, Financial Reporting or Finance Management roles.

• Experience, leading, coaching and developing finance teams.

• Establish clear ownership, responsibilities and service standards across Finance processes.

• A strong understanding of financial controls, statutory reporting and external audit processes.

• Strong stakeholder management and business partnering skills.

• Advanced Excel skills.

• Able to work a minimum of 37.5 hours per week.

Desirable Requirements

• Experience within financial services, lending, banking or another regulated industry.

• Knowledge of IFRS 9, impairment accounting and portfolio reporting.

• Experience of treasury, funding arrangements and covenant monitoring.

• Experience supporting finance systems implementations.
