Financial Controller - Milton Keynes
Broster Buchanan are excited to be partnering with a renowned organisation based in Milton Keynes who are looking to hire a Financial Controller to join their impressive finance team.
Type: Full time, Permanent
Location: Milton Keynes
Package: £Competitive + brilliant enhanced benefits (including bonus, private healthcare and car allowance)
This is a genuinely broad role with full ownership of financial control, reporting and governance. It will suit an experienced Financial Controller who enjoys being hands-on, while also playing a key role in strengthening processes, supporting decision-making and leading a small team.
Importantly, this is a role with a clear succession opportunity. The current Finance Director is looking to develop their successor, making this an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Financial Controller who is ready to broaden their experience, increase their exposure at senior leadership level and position themselves for a future Finance Director appointment.
You’ll work closely with the Finance Director and wider leadership team, gaining significant exposure across the business while taking ownership of a broad financial control agenda.
The opportunity would particularly suit someone who has established themselves as a strong Financial Controller and is now looking for the next step in their career towards Finance Director level.
You’ll take responsibility for the overall financial control environment, ensuring reporting is accurate, deadlines are met and robust controls are in place.
Alongside this, you’ll work closely with stakeholders across the business, providing insight, challenging where appropriate and helping to drive continuous improvement.
We’re looking for a technically strong Financial Controller with a robust grounding in financial reporting, financial controls and governance. Ideally, you will have trained in practice, particularly Big 4 or Top 10, or bring an equivalent level of technical experience if industry-trained.
You’ll be a qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) with a strong background in financial reporting and control. A strong understanding of UK GAAP, with some exposure to other reporting frameworks such as US GAAP, would be beneficial.
SAP experience is a non-negotiable requirement for this role. You must have demonstrable, hands-on experience working with SAP and be confident operating within an SAP-led financial control environment.
You’ll also bring a strong track record in financial controls, governance and risk management. An audit background, whether gained in practice or industry, would be highly desirable, particularly where this has given you a strong understanding of control frameworks, processes, compliance and identifying areas of risk.
Leadership & Stakeholder Management This role involves working across different teams, cultures, locations and ways of working, so we’re looking for someone who can lead effectively in a complex environment.
Previous experience leading or working with offshore teams is highly desirable. However, we’re equally interested in candidates who can demonstrate strong leadership without relying on formal authority — for example, those who have successfully influenced, coordinated and delivered through individuals and teams across different cultures, languages, geographies and professional backgrounds.
You’ll be confident building relationships, influencing senior stakeholders and bringing people with you through change, even where you don’t have direct line‑management responsibility.
Ultimately, we’re looking for someone who combines strong technical financial control expertise with mature, inclusive and effective leadership.
This is more than a traditional Financial Controller position. It represents an opportunity to work closely with an established Finance Director who is actively looking to develop their successor.
