Group Financial Controller

Location: Hybrid - 1-2 days per week in Manchester

About the Role

A leading UK organisation is seeking an accomplished Group Financial Controller to lead its financial reporting and control functions. This is a pivotal role shaping how the organisation manages, transforms, and future-proofs its finances.

It's an exciting opportunity for a technically strong, commercially minded, and people-focused finance leader who's ready to drive transformation and make a real impact.

Reporting to the Head of Finance, you'll oversee all aspects of financial accounting, statutory reporting, and compliance, while leading a high-performing team. You'll strengthen financial controls, champion automation and digital transformation, and deliver meaningful insight to enhance decision-making across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead continuous improvement across the financial control function, driving efficiency through automation, digital tools, and process optimisation.
  • Oversee month-end close, statutory accounts, and compliance with accounting, tax, and audit standards.
  • Deliver accurate, timely financial reporting and provide insightful analysis to support strategic decision-making.
  • Build trusted relationships with external stakeholders including auditors, advisers, and regulators.
  • Partner with internal teams to ensure sound financial decisions and long-term sustainability.
  • Maintain robust internal controls, risk management, and governance processes.
  • Inspire, coach, and develop your team to deliver excellence and foster a culture of learning, accountability, and innovation.
About You

You'll be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with extensive experience leading financial accounting or transactional teams. You'll bring a strong technical foundation, commercial awareness, and a proven track record of delivering successful transformation projects.

Essential experience:

  • At least 5 years in a senior finance leadership role
  • Deep expertise in financial reporting, controls, and technical accounting
  • Experience implementing process improvements, automation, or new systems
  • Strong stakeholder management and leadership skills
  • Knowledge of defined benefit pension schemes

Desirable:

  • Experience in the health, social care, or not-for-profit sector
