Job description

Potensis is pleased to partner with a trusted and respected Residential Developer who has consistently delivered high‑end, complex and design‑led projects throughout the South East for over 20 years. Due to expansion, they are looking to recruit a Financial Controller who will be a key member of the Finance team and help achieve long‑term growth plans.

Location

Liverpool, Knowsley, L33

Responsibilities
  • Ledger Management and Monthly Reporting – manage month‑end close process on a timely basis.
  • Lead, Manage and Develop Operational Finance Team – lead, manage and develop a team of management accountant, subcontractor payment supervisor and purchase ledger supervisor.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting – assist in preparing the annual budget, mid‑year reforecasts, and five‑year business plans with specific input on opening position, overheads, structured companies, tax, land and strategic businesses, and balance sheet items.
  • Cost Control & Profitability – supervise the preparation of monthly cost and commitment reporting to support review and re‑forecast of construction cost, technical fees, sales & marketing costs and customer service costs.
  • Statutory Reporting & Audit – act as lead contact for auditors and tax advisers during the year‑end audit; prepare year‑end statutory accounts and tax workbooks; coordinate final submissions to Companies House and HMRC.
  • Taxation & Compliance – oversee preparation of VAT returns, liaise with tax advisors on TP and CIR, ensure timely QIPS payments, and manage compliance with payroll, P11Ds, CITB, and other statutory requirements.
Qualifications & Skills
  • ACA, CIMA, ACCA or equivalent.
  • Confident leader & mentor – a team‑builder who can inspire and develop a finance team while delivering high‑quality outputs under planned deadlines.
  • Proactive & flexible – able to instil rigour in department processes whilst anticipating challenges, adapting to change, and providing cover for the Finance Director where necessary.
  • Technically proficient & detail‑oriented – fully qualified accountant with excellent attention to detail and technical accuracy in statutory and management reporting.
  • Clear & collaborative communicator – comfortable liaising across all levels of the business, from site teams to MD, investors, and external auditors.
  • Excel & modelling expert – proficient in Excel and able to accurately manipulate large volumes of data (advanced data management formulae, pivots, lookups); confident to interrogate, understand, use and improve existing models.
  • Industry knowledge – experience in housebuilding, development, or construction highly desirable, including experience of VAT, PAYE, CIS and COINs.
Remuneration

Salary: £50,000 – £70,000 per annum + benefits.

Hours: 5 days onsite per week.
