An exceptional opportunity has arisen for an experienced and technically accomplished Financial Controller to join a leading investment management business. Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will take ownership of financial control, statutory reporting, regulatory capital, treasury and governance across a complex group structure.
This is a broad and highly visible role requiring strong technical accounting expertise, commercial awareness and the ability to build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, auditors and external advisers.
You will play a key role in maintaining a robust financial control environment, ensuring accurate and timely reporting, supporting regulatory obligations and driving continuous improvement across finance operations.
The Role
As Financial Controller, you will be responsible for the oversight and delivery of high-quality financial reporting and control across multiple legal entities. Working closely with senior management, you will provide technical accounting expertise, support strategic decision-making and ensure the business continues to operate within a strong governance framework.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and maintain a robust financial control framework across the group.
- Oversee monthly financial close processes and consolidated group reporting.
- Produce consolidated statutory financial statements for multiple legal entities.
- Prepare technical accounting papers covering the application of IFRS and UK GAAP.
- Monitor changes in accounting standards and ensure ongoing compliance.
- Oversee accounting treatment for long-term incentive plans.
- Coordinate financial reporting requirements across corporate entities and investment funds.
- Work closely with the FP&A team on management reporting, analysis and financial queries.
- Prepare additional financial information and analysis as required.
External Audit
- Lead the coordination of statutory external audits across corporate entities and funds.
- Act as the principal point of contact for external auditors.
- Ensure audit findings and control recommendations are addressed appropriately and within agreed timescales.
Treasury & Cash Management
- Monitor group cash balances and liquidity requirements.
- Forecast corporate treasury requirements.
- Manage term deposits and intercompany financing arrangements.
- Coordinate dividend and distribution documentation and payment processes.
- Provide support and cover for senior finance approvals where required.
- Review regulatory financial reporting and ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Monitor regulatory capital and liquidity resources across relevant entities.
- Support ICARA assessments through financial modelling and stress testing.
- Assess the impact of business activities on capital and liquidity requirements.
- Ensure continued compliance with applicable regulatory obligations.
- Oversee corporate tax compliance requirements delivered by external advisers.
- Manage tax reserves and associated payment requirements.
- Review and maintain transfer pricing policies and documentation.
- Develop and maintain an effective Tax Control Framework.
- Ensure adherence to relevant financial legislation, regulation and governance standards.
Board & Stakeholder Management
- Prepare Board papers relating to financial reporting, statutory accounts and distributions.
- Attend Board meetings and relevant committees, providing financial insight and commentary where required.
- Develop strong working relationships with senior management, auditors, advisers and internal stakeholders.
Finance Systems & Process Improvement
- Support finance system administration and operational functionality.
- Lead finance systems development and improvement initiatives.
- Drive efficient, scalable and best-practice accounting processes.
- Ensure finance policies, procedures and controls remain current and effectively communicated.
About You
You will be an experienced finance professional with a strong technical accounting background and experience operating within investment management, financial services or a similarly regulated environment.
You will have:
- ACA qualification with current ICAEW membership.
- Previous audit experience, ideally within financial services.
- Strong technical knowledge of IFRS and UK GAAP.
- Experience preparing statutory and consolidated financial statements.
- Experience with regulatory capital and liquidity requirements.
- Knowledge of treasury management and financial controls.
- Understanding of corporate taxation and transfer pricing.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence senior colleagues.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- A high level of accuracy, organisation and attention to detail.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver under pressure.
- A commercial approach to problem solving and decision-making.
- Strong IT skills, including advanced Excel and financial systems experience.
- Knowledge of SUN accounting software would be advantageous.
