VNI Finance is delighted to be retained by our key manufacturing client in Hamilton, Greater Glasgow, with the key appointment of their new Financial Controller.
This is a highly visible role in the business, created to partner with the senior leadership team. The role will report directly to the Managing Director and would suit a commercially minded finance professional.
This is a commercially focused Financial Controller role, created to strengthen decision support and modernise the finance function.
It is likely the successful individual will come from an SME/medium-sized business background and enjoy variety within a role where they can make an immediate impact.
Role Overview:
- Own cash flow, liquidity, working capital, treasury and currency exposure.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting and budget-versus-actual analysis.
- Prepare and analyse monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports.
- Develop management reporting, KPIs, dashboards and performance insight.
- Partner with Trading, Production, Logistics and Procurement.
- Identify margin, profitability and operational performance improvements.
- Provide commercial insight and advice to the Managing Director.
- Lead finance-system improvement and implementation projects.
- Develop Sage, ERP, Power BI and Excel reporting capability.
- Drive automation and continuous improvement across finance processes.
- Maintain robust financial controls, compliance and risk management.
- Support investment appraisals, business cases and profitability reviews.
- Coordinate R&D tax claim activity and external finance relationships.
- Build a scalable finance function capable of supporting future growth.
Candidate Background:
- Qualified/QBE
- Finance experience gained within an SME or medium-sized business.
- Strong cash flow, working capital and financial-control capability.
- Commercial mindset with the ability to turn numbers into decisions.
- Experience in budgeting, forecasting and management reporting.
- Hands-on involvement in the finance system or ERP implementation.
- Manufacturing, international trading or multi-currency exposure preferred.
- Comfortable working close to operational detail and senior leadership.
- Proactive approach to growth, change and modernising processes.
- Strong communication and business-partnering skills.
- Advanced Excel skills; Sage, ERP or Power BI exposure advantageous.
Package:
- £55,000–£60,000 salary depending on experience.
- Direct exposure to the Managing Director and senior leadership team.
- 4X Death in Service.
- 35 days annual leave.
- Core hours: 8:30am–5:00pm Monday to Thursday. 8:30am–1:30pm Friday.
- Site based with the option of 1 day remote.
