About the ole

As Financial Controller, you will lead the Finance team and oversee financial governance across the business. You’ll also manage Business Operations (including compliance, procurement, and asset coordination) and Human Resources. This is a key leadership role, driving operational excellence and ensuring alignment with UK Connect's strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Financial Leadership
  • Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with UK Connect's growth plans.
  • Lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting processes.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic decision‑making.
  • Ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with UK GAAP and IFRS.
  • Manage relationships with external stakeholders including auditors, banks, and legal advisors.
Operational Excellence
  • Oversee financial reporting systems and controls to ensure compliance and efficiency.
  • Identify and implement process improvements across finance and operations.
  • Monitor key financial metrics and provide recommendations for performance optimisation.
  • Support business governance and commercial teams in strategic initiatives.
Business Operations
  • Manage compliance, procurement, and asset coordination functions.
  • Ensure integration of operational data into financial reporting.
  • Regularly review cost base and optimise for profitability.
Human Resources
  • Oversee HR operations and ensure alignment with company goals.
  • Support recruitment, development, and retention of talent.
  • Ensure completion of training and development plans for HR and finance staff.
What We're Looking For
  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in a senior finance role, ideally within a fast‑paced SME.
  • Strong knowledge of UK accounting standards, financial reporting, and compliance.
  • Experience managing finance, HR, and business operations teams.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to drive process improvements and manage change.
  • Proficiency in financial systems (e.g., Xero) and HR systems (e.g., People HR).
