Job summary

ICAEW is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead the UK finance function. You will own the UK operation, ensure robust controls and reporting, and partner with commercial and global finance teams.

Reporting to the Finance Director, you will develop the UK team, manage audits, VAT and statutory reporting, and drive improvements across processes and systems. Hybrid working is available.

Qualifications

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
  • Significant experience managing a full finance function within a commercial environment.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge including UK GAAP, VAT and statutory reporting.
  • Experience managing and developing finance teams.
  • Proven background in audit management, compliance and financial controls.
  • Experience working with ERP systems such as NetSuite or similar.
  • Strong business partnering skills with the ability to influence non-finance stakeholders.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational and communication skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills and a continuous improvement mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the UK finance operation, ensuring robust financial control and high-quality reporting.
  • Partner with commercial stakeholders and the global finance function.
  • Manage monthly management accounts, statutory accounts and external audits.
  • Oversee VAT, corporation tax, HMRC submissions and Companies House compliance.
  • Act as finance business partner on contracts, pricing and renewals.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting and FP&A activities.
  • Manage treasury, cash flow forecasting and banking relationships.
  • Maintain month-end processes, accruals, prepayments and reconciliations.
  • Oversee payroll sign-off and supplier payments.
  • Drive process improvements and finance transformation projects.
  • Support group consolidation and wider reporting requirements.

Your new role

Reporting to the Finance Director, you will take full ownership of the UK finance operation, ensuring robust financial control, statutory compliance and high-quality financial reporting. You will lead and develop the UK finance team while partnering closely with commercial stakeholders and the wider global finance function.

  • Leading, coaching and developing the UK finance team, including performance management, succession planning and training.
  • Ownership of monthly management accounts, statutory accounts and financial reporting for UK entities.
  • Managing the annual audit process and maintaining strong relationships with external auditors.
  • Overseeing VAT, corporation tax, HMRC submissions and Companies House compliance.
  • Acting as a finance business partner to commercial leadership, providing financial insight on contracts, pricing and renewals.
  • Supporting budgeting and forecasting activities alongside FP&A teams.
  • Managing treasury, cash flow forecasting and banking relationships.
  • Ensuring strong financial controls and ownership of month-end processes including accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Overseeing payroll sign-off, supplier payments and operational finance activities.
  • Driving process improvements, automation initiatives and finance transformation projects.
  • Supporting group consolidation and wider global reporting requirements.
What you’ll need to succeed
  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
