MacKenzie King are excited to be recruiting a Financial Controller for a growing SME, based on the outskirts of Bury St Edmunds. The Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing the day‑to‑day financial management of the business, ensuring robust financial controls, accurate reporting, and timely insight to support decision‑making.

Key tasks and responsibilities
  • Prepare timely and accurate monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow.
  • Produce annual statutory accounts and act as the main point of contact for external accountants and auditors.
  • Develop and maintain financial models, forecasts, and budgets.
  • Provide financial analysis and commentary to support commercial and strategic decisions.
  • Manage cash flow forecasting and daily cash management.
  • Oversee credit control, billing, and supplier payments.
  • Design, implement, and maintain strong financial controls and processes.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and tax requirements.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and documentation.
  • Drive continuous improvement in finance processes, efficiency, and automation.
  • Support system implementations or upgrades as required.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop the finance team.
  • Partner with senior management and department heads to provide financial insight.
Qualifications and experience
  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) or qualified by experience.
  • Proven experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance role, ideally within an SME.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and financial reporting skills.
  • Excellent Excel and systems capabilities.
  • Commercially minded with strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Hands‑on, adaptable, and comfortable operating in a fast‑paced environment.
