Job summary

Michael Page Finance seeks a capable Financial Controller in Doncaster to oversee a c. £12 million turnover manufacturing business. You will lead a finance team, own the monthly management accounts, and drive ERP implementation with strong commercial finance input.

The role reports to the Managing Director, with a dotted line to the CEO, and focuses on improving processes, controls and reporting to support growth and strategic decisions.

Qualifications

  • Qualified accountant, qualified by experience or part-qualified (essential).
  • Strong experience in management accounts, cashflow forecasting, budgeting and financial controls (essential).
  • Experience managing others and involvement in ERP implementation and process improvement (essential/desirable).

Responsibilities

  • Act as key strategic partner to MD with financial leadership and decision support.
  • Lead and coach a finance team of 4, overseeing accounts, payroll and HR/payroll processes.
  • Own preparation of monthly management accounts, variances and KPI reporting for leadership and board.
  • Drive cashflow forecasting, working capital management and supplier/payable controls.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting and strategic financial planning to support growth and ERP transformation.
  • Support ERP implementation and data integrity, ensuring robust financial controls.

You will oversee the financial operations of a c. £12 million TO business in Doncaster whilst acting as a key strategic finance partner to the Managing Director. You will have the autonomy to put your stamp on the finance function and drive continuous improvements that you think fit.

Description

As Financial Controller you will be reporting directly into the Managing Director, but will also have a dotted line into the CEO. This is a varied role, as it encompasses: managing the finance team, taking ownership of the company's management and financial accounts, acting as a key strategic finance partner to the MD, supporting with an ERP system implementation and driving continuous improvements across the finance function. Your duties as part of this will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Acting as a key strategic partner to the Managing Director, providing commercial insight, financial leadership and decision-making support to help deliver the company's long-term growth ambitions and ERP transformation programme
  • Managing, coaching and developing a team of 4 in finance, including Assistant Accountant, Purchase Ledger Clerk, Sales Ledger Clerk and HR/Payroll Officer.
  • Having an active role in strategic financial decision-making, translating business plans into clear financial forecasts, budgets and performance measures.
  • Being a core member of the senior leadership team - contributing to medium and long term planning discussions.
  • Providing financial insight, risk assessment, scenario planning and commercial challenge to support leadership decision-making.
  • Leading management meetings, including cashflow reviews, monthly performance reviews and senior leadership forums.
  • Own preparation of clear, data-led financial updates for management and board-level review.
  • Producing accurate monthly management accounts, including profit and loss, balance sheet, cashflow and supporting analysis.
  • Managing weekly cashflow forecasting, working capital, debtor control, supplier payments and banking controls.
  • Leading budgeting, forecasting and financial planning processes in line with business objectives.
  • Providing clear financial insight, variance analysis and recommendations to support management decision-making.
  • Ensuring robust financial controls are in place across sales ledger, purchase ledger, payroll, stock, WIP and nominal ledger processes.
  • Overseeing VAT, PAYE, pension, insurance and other statutory or regulatory finance obligations, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Managing year-end preparation, liaising with external accountants, auditors and relevant professional advisers.
  • Supporting operational and commercial teams with margin analysis, labour recovery, costing, pricing and profitability insight.
  • Identifying and leading finance improvement projects to increase accuracy, efficiency and control as the business grows.
  • Playing a key role in the ERP implementation, with particular ownership of finance processes, reporting, controls and data integrity.
  • Providing clear financial reporting, KPIs and forward-looking analysis to senior leadership and board-level review
Profile

Job Offer
  • £50,000 - £60,000
  • Flexible start and finish hours and the opportunity to work 1/2 a day on Friday
