Financial Controller

Location: UK (Site-Based - East Midlands)

Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 per annum (DOE)

Neos Engineering are partnered with a high-performing, privately owned engineering and equipment business entering an exciting phase of growth. This is a rare opportunity for an experienced Financial Controller to take full ownership of the finance function, work directly with senior leadership, and play a key role in shaping the financial direction of the business.

The Opportunity

As Financial Controller, you will be the senior finance professional on site, acting as a trusted advisor to the Managing Director and leadership team. You will have autonomy to implement improvements, enhance financial controls, and deliver meaningful commercial insight that directly impacts business performance.

This is a hands‑on, commercially focused role ideal for someone who enjoys being close to operations while also contributing at a strategic level.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Reporting
  • Produce accurate monthly management accounts (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow)
  • Provide clear, insightful financial reporting to senior leadership
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
  • Oversee year‑end accounts and manage external accountants and auditors
Cash Flow & Commercial Control
  • Manage cash flow forecasting and working capital
  • Oversee credit control, supplier payments, and stock valuation
  • Support asset, stock, and funding arrangements
  • Provide commercial input to pricing, margins, and profitability
Controls, Compliance & Governance
  • Maintain and enhance robust financial controls and processes
  • Ensure compliance with UK accounting, VAT, and statutory requirements
  • Oversee payroll, insurance, audits, and regulatory reporting
Business Partnering & Growth
  • Act as a financial business partner to operational leaders
  • Support business planning, investment appraisals, and growth initiatives
  • Deliver insight that drives efficiency, profitability, and performance
Systems & Process Improvement
  • Drive continuous improvement across finance systems and reporting
  • Ensure effective use of accounting and operational systems
  • Support development of finance team members (where applicable)
The Candidate

Essential

  • Proven experience as a Financial Controller or Senior Management Accountant
  • Strong understanding of SME or owner‑managed businesses
  • Excellent UK accounting and VAT knowledge
  • Commercially focused, hands‑on, and detail‑driven
  • Confident communicator with non‑financial stakeholders

Desirable

  • Background in engineering, equipment, plant, automotive, or dealer environments
  • Experience with asset finance, stock finance, or manufacturer reporting
  • Part‑qualified or fully qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA)
