About the Role

Simon Fraser University's School of Medicine is looking for a Financial Analyst that will provide financial analysis and reporting to support decision-making by School of Medicine leadership. The Financial Analyst plays a key role in supporting informed decision-making by providing accurate financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting for the SFU School of Medicine. This position ensures compliance with financial policies, identifies risks and opportunities, and contributes to the effective allocation of resources. By enhancing financial tools and processes, the role supports operational efficiency, transparency, and the School's overall strategic and financial goals. The ideal candidate for the Financial Analyst position at SFU School of Medicine brings strong expertise in financial analysis and reporting, with the ability to interpret complex data, create accurate forecasts, and develop comprehensive financial models. They have a strategic, solutions-oriented mindset and can identify financial risks and opportunities, providing insightful, data-driven recommendations to guide decision-making. Proficiency in Excel, enterprise financial systems, and data visualization tools is key, along with a dedication to enhancing financial tools and streamlining processes. This individual communicates financial information clearly to a range of audiences and collaborates effectively across departments. Detail-oriented and thorough, they ensure financial records are accurate and aligned with institutional policies and regulatory requirements. They are also adaptable and proactive, capable of navigating shifting priorities and addressing financial challenges with initiative and sound judgment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, Business Administration or relevant discipline and a professional accounting designation (e.g., CPA) and four years of related experience, including experience in financial management, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing financial tools, including templates and dashboards, to support budgeting and decision-making processes.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to resolve complex financial issues and provide strategic recommendations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for clearly presenting financial data and insights to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships across all levels and departments within an organization.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality and demonstrates initiative, sound judgment, diplomacy, and discretion in handling sensitive information.
  • Proficient in financial reporting and data visualization tools, such as Power BI, Power Query, or other relevant software.
