Sureserve Energy Services Meters Ltd, a subsidiary of Sureserve, is hiring a Financial Accountant to manage month-end journals, balance sheet reconciliations and statutory reporting. You will support payroll accounting, overhead analysis, and IFRS-aligned treatments while collaborating with the Finance Manager to uphold robust controls.

The role offers VAT and HMRC compliance responsibilities, audit support, and a pathway to develop expertise within a growing UK energy services business.

Qualifications

• Trainee or part-qualified accountant with accounting training.
• Experience in financial or management accounting roles.
• Familiarity with UK GAAP/IFRS and VAT is essential.
• Strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficient in Excel and ERP systems for reporting and reconciliations.
• Payroll accounting and reconciliations experience desirable.

Responsibilities

• Prepare month-end journals including accruals and prepayments.
• Maintain balance sheet reconciliations and substantiation.
• Assist with statutory accounts and external audits.
• Maintain fixed asset register and depreciation calculations.
• Support VAT, corporation tax and HMRC compliance reporting.
• Work with Finance Manager on period-end and year-end reporting.

• Post payroll journals and perform monthly payroll reconciliations.

About Sureserve Energy Services Meters:

Sureserve Energy Services Meters Ltd, is a subsidiary of Sureserve, we specialise in installing domestic smart meters across the UK, working directly with 3 of the “Big Six” energy suppliers in the UK.

Role Overview:

The Financial Accountant is responsible for preparing journals,i.e. accruals and prepayments, maintaining the accuracy of the general ledger, and supporting the month-end close process. The role plays a key part in balance sheet integrity, statutory reporting, audit support, and payroll accounting, operating closely with the Finance Manager to ensure robust financial controls and IFRS- compliant accounting

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare month-end journals (i.e. accruals, prepayments, accrued income and overhead allocations)
• Perform and maintain balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring all items are substantiated and cleared promptly
• Assist with the preparation of statutory accounts and support the external audit process
• Maintain the fixed asset register, including additions, disposals and depreciation calculations
• Support VAT, corporation tax and other compliance reporting in line with HMRC requirements
• Working with the Finance Manager and Group Finance for periodic and year end reporting
• Ensure IFRS alignment across accounting treatments, including support for revenue recognition
• Conduct first review of payroll prior to sign-off by the Finance Manager, ensuring accuracy and completeness
• Review and approve timesheets to ensure accurate labour cost allocation
• Post payroll journals and perform monthly payroll reconciliations
• Support Finance Manager with Overhead Analysis
• Support the Finance Manager with process improvements and maintenance of system integrity
• Carry out any other duties, analysis, reporting, or project work reasonably required to support the effective operation of the finance function and wider business.

Qualifications, key skills and experience required:

• Trainee or part-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
• Experience in a financial accounting or management accounting role
• Working knowledge of UK GAAP / IFRS and VAT
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in a fast-paced environment
• Proficient in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, reconciliations); experience with accounting ERP systems required
• Experience with payroll accounting and reconciliations desirable
• Meticulous attention to detail and high standards of accuracy
• Passion for finance, data, and problem-solving
• Experience with financial controls, audit, and governance processes
• Methodical and organised with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
• Proactive in identifying and resolving discrepancies or errors
