Job Overview

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Financial Accountant to lead on the preparation and delivery of annual statutory accounts in line with IFRS, FReM and public sector financial reporting standards.

As a Financial Accountant you will coordinate year-end close processes, ensure accurate financial statements, and act as the primary contact for external auditors to deliver a smooth audit process.

The Financial Accountant will apply strong technical accounting and analytical skills, ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks while supporting continuous improvement of financial controls.

Duties
  • Prepare Annual Financial Statements: Produce statutory accounts for multiple entities in line with IFRS, FReM and CIPFA standards
  • Lead Year-End Close: Coordinate the year-end close process, ensuring timely reconciliations and audit readiness
  • Manage External Audit: Act as the key point of contact for auditors, responding to requests and resolving issues
  • Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Maintain adherence to public sector accounting frameworks and audit requirements
  • Provide Technical Advice: Offer accounting guidance and support to colleagues across the organisation
  • Maintain Financial Controls: Strengthen internal controls and ensure all financial processes are documented and effective
  • Manage Taxation and Insurance: Oversee VAT returns, tax computations and insurance matters
  • Support Continuous Improvement: Review and refine reporting schedules and year-end documentation
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL

  • Professionally qualified accountant (e.g. ICAS, ACCA, CIPFA, CIMA)
  • Proven experience in preparing financial statements and statutory reporting
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS, FReM and public sector accounting frameworks
  • Experience liaising with external auditors and audit teams
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and deliver under pressure

DESIRABLE

  • Experience using IRIS accounting software or similar
  • Background in multi-entity consolidation or intercompany reporting
  • Experience driving process improvements in financial reporting
