Job Description:

Assistant Manager
Finance Consulting | CFO Solutions
Controllership Transformation & Financial Close Automation
NEW GROUND WON'T BREAK ITSELF.

Grant Thornton UK's Finance Consulting / CFO Solutions practice helps ambitious businesses transform their finance functions - making them faster, smarter, and more strategically relevant to the organisations they serve. We are growing our team and looking for an exceptional Assistant Manager to scale our Controllership Transformation and Financial Close Automation practice. This is a high-profile role at the intersection of finance operations, process redesign, and enabling technology-working alongside senior finance leaders and shaping the future of our controllership offering.

A look into the role

You will work on engagements that help clients improve how they close their books, reconcile accounts, and report with greater speed and confidence. You will develop skills across process redesign, close automation technology, and stakeholder management, supported by experienced Directors and Partners who will help you grow.

Over time you will take on increasing responsibility for leading workstreams and managing client relationships, building towards Manager and beyond.

As a Assistant Manager in our Finance Consulting team you will :

  • Build your own internal and external network so that you can grow your experience of opportunity generation as you progress towards Associate Director and beyond
  • Develop your skills and knowledge around finance automation technology including achieving certification status of selected solutions
  • Use empathy and listening skills to uncover the real root cause of issues and translate that into compelling propositions for clients
  • Demonstrate a collaborative attitude towards colleagues across Consulting and wider Grant Thornton, always looking to bring the most appropriate capabilities to our clients regardless of departmental boundaries
  • Take real ownership of quality, compliance, and risk matters on your engagements
  • Assist with practice development initiatives- whether internal business development, external marketing, or the continued improvement of our toolkit - typically in conjunction with senior colleagues, with scope to carve your own niche over time
  • Take responsibility for managing engagement budgets and timelines
  • Support and lead workstreams within controllership and financial close transformation engagements, from diagnostic through to implementation
  • Analyse current-state close processes- identifying bottlenecks, manual workarounds, control weaknesses, and opportunities for automation
  • Assist in the design and implementation of improved close calendars, account reconciliation frameworks, task management workflows, and intercompany processes
  • Support close technology implementations across FloQast, OneStream, and Prophix - including requirements gathering, configuration support, testing, and user adoption activities
  • Develop process documentation, policy frameworks, and training materials that help clients embed and sustain change
  • Build strong day-to-day relationships with client finance teams, acting as a trusted and responsive point of contact
