Job summary

NHS Blood and Transplant is seeking a Finance Support Analyst Team Leader to lead a team, coordinate the monthly management accounts, and deliver accurate financial reporting and insights to budget holders. You will work closely with Finance Business Partners to improve reporting processes and strengthen financial controls.

The role is mainly remote with monthly attendance at the Barnsley Blood Centre for team meetings, offering opportunities to develop financial systems and support colleagues

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or CCAB Finalist or equivalent experience.
  • Hold or willing to work towards a professional Accountancy Qualification e.g. CCAB or equivalent body.
  • Demonstrate commitment to own Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Responsibilities

  • Lead the monthly management accounts process, ensuring accurate and timely financial information is available to support decision-making across NHSBT.
  • Manage and develop Finance Support Analysts, creating a positive environment where colleagues can learn, grow and perform at their best.
  • Produce and analyse financial reports that help budget holders understand performance and make informed decisions.
  • Provide expert financial support and guidance, helping colleagues resolve queries and understand financial trends and variances.
  • Improve financial systems, databases and reporting processes to increase efficiency, accuracy and consistency.
  • Coordinate key month-end activities, including payroll, budget adjustments and reporting, while maintaining strong financial controls.
  • Maintain and enhance financial reporting tools and databases, ensuring stakeholders have access to reliable information.
  • Build effective relationships with finance and non-finance colleagues to support collaborative working and excellent service delivery.
  • Deliver training and support to budget holders, helping them confidently manage budgets and use financial information effectively.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen financial processes and support organisational performance.

Finance Support Analyst – Team Leader

As a Finance Support Analyst Team Leader, you will play a key role in helping NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) make informed decisions that support the delivery of life-saving services. Leading a team of Finance Support Analysts, you will coordinate the monthly management accounts process, provide accurate financial reporting, and deliver insights that help managers understand performance and use resources effectively. Working closely with Finance Business Partners and senior colleagues, you will improve reporting processes, develop financial systems, and ensure high standards of financial control. Please note that this role is mainly remote. However, you will be required to attend the Barnsley Blood Centre once a month for team meetings.

Main duties of the job

Experience and Knowledge
  • Advanced knowledge of the main Microsoft Office products (particularly Excel and Access).
  • Specialist knowledge of General Ledger systems and Payroll systems (preferably ORACLE and ESR) is required.
  • Experience of working in a medium to large multi-disciplinary Organisation (preferably NHS) in a financial/management accounting role.
  • Specialist knowledge of reporting software products (Business Objects, Discoverer, ADI, MS Office suite) is essential to enable regular and frequent report development and analytical work.
Qualifications And Training
