Job description

The Finance Officer role offers the chance to play a key part in delivering high-quality financial services while developing professionally within DVSA. You’ll provide flexible support across the Financial Control Team, gaining hands‑on experience in general accounting and DVSA operations. The role covers a wide range of activities, including banking, accounts receivable and payable, payroll and VAT, helping ensure accurate records, timely reconciliations, strong financial controls and excellent service to internal and external customers.

To be successful in this role you will need to have the following experience:

  1. Providing expert advice and guidance to DVSA customers and employees on the ERP systems, related applications and processes
  2. Building and maintaining excellent working relationships with key stakeholders such as customers, shared services and DVSA managers in the delivery of a quality and consistent Financial Control service
  3. Using tools such as excel and access databases, to develop a range of reports and reconciliations. These will be used by management, to support audits and to drive improvements
  4. Support the development of a culture of continuous improvement and contribute to the implementation of best practice. Recommend opportunities for improvement in financial control processes including through simplification and automation.
  5. Execute responsibilities effectively and in line with DVSA policies and processes, planning and coordinating tasks and activities and taking responsibility for ensuring objectives are delivered.

Person specification

Required experience:

To be successful in this role you will need to have the following experience:

  1. Intermediate Excel skills and knowledge
  2. Experience in the use of MS Word, MS Outlook, and MS Teams
  3. Experience of ERP systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle)
  4. Advanced interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with key stakeholders
  5. Dealing with stakeholders in multiple channels e.g. email, telephone etc
  6. Experience of delivering outcomes within tight deadlines
Additional Information

Candidates must have a willingness to work towards formal Accountancy qualification eg AAT / ACCA whilst in post if not already held.

Allowances

Level 1 - £1,500 - Full AAT qualification or ACCA Papers F1- F5 Complete/ CIMA Operational Level Complete/ CIPFA Strategic Stage Complete/ ICAEW Certificate Level Complete

Level 2 - £2,000 - ACCA Papers F7 - F9 Complete/ CIMA - Managerial Level Complete/ CIPFA - Professional Diploma Complete/ ICAEW - Professional Level Complete

Level 3 - £4,000 - All papers completed - ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, ICAEW.

Working hours, office attendance and travel requirements

Full time roles consist of 37 hours per week.

This role is suitable for hybrid working, which is a non‑contractual arrangement where a combination of workplace and home‑based working can be accommodated subject to business requirements.

The expectation at present is a minimum of 60% of your working time a month will be spent at either your designated workplace (one of the locations cited in the advert) or, when required for business reasons, in another office/work location/visiting stakeholders. Your designated workplace will be your contractual place of work. There may be occasions where you are required to attend above the minimum expectation.

Occasional travel to other offices will be required, which may involve overnight stays.
