Job description

Grant Instruments designs and manufactures precision laboratory equipment for the life sciences sector, with manufacturing operations in the UK and Latvia. Our instruments support scientists and researchers across the globe, and our commercial team is the engine that connects that engineering excellence to the customers who rely on it every day.

About the role

We’re looking for an organised and detail-focused Finance Officer to join our finance team.

The role is part-time (30-32 hours per week). Salary is based on full-time equivalent (37.5 hrs).

This is a hands-on role responsible for the day-to-day processing and maintenance of both supplier and customer accounts for Grant and its UK subsidiary. You’ll play an important part in keeping our ledgers accurate, supporting effective cash flow and ensuring invoices, payments and reconciliations are managed efficiently.

You’ll work across accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit control and banking, giving you a varied role within a busy finance environment.

What you'll be doing
Accounts Payable
  • Processing purchase invoices, including PO and non-PO invoices, and employee expenses through Traild.
  • Ensuring the appropriate approvals are obtained before invoices are posted.
  • Following up and resolving invoice queries and price variances.
  • Preparing supplier payment runs and submitting them for approval.
  • Reconciling supplier statements and ensuring invoices and payments are correctly matched.
  • Monitoring outstanding GRNI, chasing missing invoices and clearing aged balances.
Accounts Receivable & Credit Control
  • Proactively chasing overdue customer accounts and proforma invoice payments to minimise aged debt and support healthy cash flow.
  • Responding to customer queries relating to invoices and payments.
  • Raising customer credit notes where required.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date customer accounts and ledgers.
  • Posting bank receipts and payments into Syspro.
  • Reconciling bank accounts and investigating any discrepancies.
What we're looking for

We're looking for someone who is organised, reliable and comfortable working with numbers and financial information.

You’ll ideally have:

  • At least 2 years' experience in an accounts payable, accounts receivable or finance administration role.
  • Experience of credit control and bank reconciliations would be an advantage.
  • Good numerical ability and confidence working with financial information and data.
  • AAT Level 2/3, or currently working towards a relevant finance qualification, would be desirable but isn't essential.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to organise your workload, prioritise effectively and meet deadlines.
  • A proactive and flexible approach, with a willingness to take on additional responsibilities when needed.
  • The ability to handle confidential information with tact and discretion.
  • A positive, collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
