Finance Officer

This role offers the opportunity to play a key part in managing the Regional Research Delivery Network budget, ensuring funding is delivered efficiently to support high‑quality health and care studies. As Finance Officer, you’ll help shape streamlined financial systems, work closely with diverse stakeholders, and contribute directly to research that benefits patients and communities across the region.

Job responsibilities

The Finance Officer supports the financial management of the NIHR Regional Research Delivery Network (RRDN), overseeing the dissemination, monitoring and accounting of approximately £18M in annual research delivery funding. Reporting to the Finance Manager, the role ensures transparent, compliant and efficient use of funds in line with Host Organisation Standing Financial Instructions and national NIHR/DHSC guidance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing subcontracting and invoice processes.
  • Administering Excess Treatment Cost (ETC) payments.
  • Coordinating budget allocations and maintaining robust audit trails.
  • Leading day‑to‑day budget coordination and maintaining financial reporting to the RDN Coordinating Centre.
  • Supporting funding calls, financial forecasting and annual planning.
  • Engaging regularly with internal teams (finance, admin, study support, analytics) and external stakeholders, translating complex financial data for non‑finance audiences.
  • Supporting audits, responding to funding queries and ensuring accurate and timely financial information is shared with all recipients of RDN funding.
  • Contributing to the development and improvement of financial systems, ensuring compliance and supporting strategic funding processes.

Working Pattern: Full time, 37.5 hours per week
