Job summary

MET Recruitment UK Ltd is seeking an experienced Finance Manager to join a privately owned business in Cradley Heath. You will lead day-to-day finance, produce management information, and maintain strong financial controls, while supporting an Accounts Assistant and collaborating with operational teams.

Location is Cradley Heath, on-site, with salary £45,000–£50,000 depending on experience. The role covers payroll, VAT, CIS, cash flow, and financial reporting.

Qualifications

• Strong end-to-end finance experience and ownership of the numbers.
• Previously in a Finance Manager, Management Accountant or similar role.
• ACCA/CIMA/ACA qualification beneficial but not required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts.
• Review and analyse project profitability.
• Manage daily cashflow with detailed weekly reviews.
• Coordinate weekly payment runs and funding requirements.
• Oversee purchase ledger, bank reconciliations and transactional finance.
• Maintain accurate creditor, debtor and factoring reconciliations.
• Take ownership of credit control and customer credit limits.
• Manage internal PAYE payroll, pensions and subcontractor/CIS payroll.
• Complete VAT and CIS returns.
• Oversee nominal postings, departmental allocations and project coding.
• Monitor stock movements and intercompany recharges.
• Maintain strong financial controls and accurate financial records.
• Provide financial insight to support operational and commercial decisions.
• Manage, support and develop an Accounts Assistant.

Finance Manager

We are recruiting an experienced Finance Manager to join an established, privately owned business based in Cradley Heath.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands‑on finance professional who enjoys taking ownership of the numbers and working closely with the operational side of a business.

Reporting into senior leadership, you will take responsibility for the day‑to‑day finance function, producing accurate and timely management information while ensuring strong financial controls are maintained across the business.

You will also manage and support an Accounts Assistant, overseeing transactional finance while taking direct responsibility for management accounts, cashflow, payroll, compliance and financial reporting.

About You

We are looking for someone with strong, practical end‑to‑end finance experience who is confident taking ownership of a varied finance function.

You may already be working as a Finance Manager, Management Accountant or in a similar role and be ready for greater responsibility.

You will ideally have:

• Strong management accounting experience


• Excellent understanding of cashflow and financial controls


• Experience of payroll, VAT and reconciliations


• Previous experience managing or mentoring finance staff


• Strong Excel and general systems skills


• Excellent attention to detail


• A proactive, organised and hands‑on approach


• The confidence to work closely with operational and senior management teams


• Good commercial awareness and the ability to interpret financial information

Experience within construction, contracting, engineering or another project‑led environment would be advantageous, particularly exposure to CIS, but construction experience is not essential.

A formal accounting qualification such as ACCA, CIMA or ACA would also be beneficial, but is not a requirement. Applications are equally welcomed from experienced qualified‑by‑experience finance professionals.

This role would suit someone who enjoys being close to the detail while still having the ability to step back, understand business performance and provide meaningful financial insight.

Salary: £45,000–£50,000 depending on experience
