Qualifications

  • Qualified accountant with strong practice and industry experience.

  • Strong knowledge of financial regulations.

Responsibilities

Skills

The Role

As Finance Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and leading the finance general ledger team. Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, you will ensure the integrity of financial accounting, reporting, and control activities across the business.

Key Accountabilities
  • Acting as the primary contact for external auditors and the wider Finance Department.
  • Overseeing weekly and monthly bank reconciliations, daily cash forecasts, and approving payments/expenses.
  • Leading month-end close procedures to maintain accurate and compliant accounting records.
  • Delivering high-quality management reporting to internal stakeholders and group reporting submissions to the parent company.
  • Reviewing balance sheet reconciliations and presenting findings to senior finance leadership.
  • Supporting annual budget preparation and monthly overhead cost analysis with department heads.
  • Preparing statutory accounts under FRS102 and overseeing lease schedules under FRS102 and IFRS16.
  • Managing tax computations, VAT returns, and CIS submissions.
  • Supporting financial analysis for bidding and M&A activity.
  • Overseeing the Fixed Asset Register and CAPEX files.
  • Driving continuous improvement in financial processes, controls, and reporting.
  • Coaching and developing Financial Accountants and Assistant Financial Accountants.
About You

We’re seeking a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with a strong blend of practice and industry experience, ideally within infrastructure, civil engineering, or construction. You will be commercially astute, technically strong, and confident in influencing senior stakeholders.

Essential Skills & Experience
  • Professional accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in accounting for long-term contracts.
  • Strong background in both practice and industry, ideally within construction or engineering.
  • Demonstrable team leadership qualities and experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of FRS102 and IFRS16, particularly lease accounting.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead month-end close, statutory reporting, and group submissions.
  • Experience in management reporting, budgeting, and cost control.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with board-level exposure.
  • Track record of coaching and developing finance teams.
  • Familiarity with M&A financial analysis and bid support.
  • Advanced data analytics skills (Excel, PowerBI).
