Job summary

Broster Buchanan is assisting a leading specialist wholesaler in County Durham to recruit a Finance Director. The role reports to the CEO with a dotted line to the Group Finance Director and sits on-site, driving financial leadership across the business.

You will oversee budgeting, cash flow forecasting, statutory accounts, VAT and HMRC reporting, and lead a finance team while partnering with operations and commercial teams to deliver robust financial control and strategic planning.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant with UK practice/industry experience.
• Experience leading finance teams and influencing senior stakeholders.
• Strong command of budgeting, forecasting and financial controls.

Responsibilities

• Lead the finance team and provide commercial commentary to stakeholders and senior management.
• Ensure financial compliance around period end in liaison with operations.
• Oversee trading budgets and cashflow forecasts; manage year-end processes and statutory accounts.
• Oversee VAT, PAYE and HMRC reporting and compliance.
• Drive customer and SKU profitability analysis including rebates and deferred income.
• Develop and enhance financial processes and internal controls.
• Oversee on-site warehouse compliance with HMRC reporting requirements.

Job description

I have been retained by a leading specialist wholesaler based in County Durham to recruit a Finance Director. The business is privately owned with an outstanding track record of profitable growth. Selling mainly B2B to a largely blue chip customer base the business provides innovative route to market solutions for global brands.

Reporting to the CEO with a dotted line to a Group Finance Director the successful candidate will play a key role in an enthusiastic and motivated senior management team, carrying full responsibility for all areas of finance and business systems. As such the role is based on site.

This is a broad role providing an opportunity to have an impact right across the business.

At a detailed level the scope will include the following

Leading the finance team in reporting to stakeholders and senior management including commercial commentary.

Liaison with operational and commercial teams to ensuring financial compliance around period end.

Preparation and management of both trading budgets and cashflow forecasts.

Oversight of taxes including VAT compliance, PAYE and reporting to HMRC.

Management of year end process and prepare the statutory accounts and liaison with external advisers.

Guiding customer and SKU profitability analysis including accounting for rebates and deferred income.

Management and ongoing development of financial processes and business controls.

Oversight of the on site customs and excise warehouse including satisfying HMRC reporting requirements.

It is envisaged that base salary will lie in the £85,000 to 95,000 pa range with an annual car allowance of £8,000 pa and potential bonus of up to20% on meeting personal and company targets. There is access to a salary sacrifice pension scheme to which the employer contributes 5%.
