Brief Description

Due to recent internal progressions within our Finance team, we're excited to offer a new opportunity to join Network Rail as a Finance Business Partner. This role serves as an excellent gateway into our Finance function - ideal for individuals looking to develop their career within one of the UK's most vital organisations. You'll play a key part in supporting business decision‑making, providing financial insight, and helping deliver value across our Works Delivery function. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain exposure to both finance and the wider business, with clear pathways for professional growth and progression across Network Rail.

About the role (External)
Role and Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
  • Partner with operational and project teams to provide financial advice, guidance, and analysis that supports effective decision‑making.
  • Deliver accurate and timely financial reporting, forecasts, and performance analysis.
  • Challenge and support budget holders to ensure robust financial management and value for money.
  • Develop a deep understanding of business drivers, risks, and opportunities to influence financial and operational outcomes.
  • Support the annual business planning, budgeting and reforecast processes.
  • Identify and implement improvements in financial processes, systems, and reporting to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Ensure financial governance, compliance, and control standards are maintained in line with Network Rail policies.
  • Work collaboratively with other Finance teams and stakeholders to share best practice and drive continuous improvement.
About You
  • Is part‑qualified or qualified in a recognised accounting qualification (e.g., CIMA, ACCA, ACA), or has equivalent experience.
  • Has strong analytical and excel skills and the ability to translate financial data into meaningful business insight.
  • Can build effective relationships with non‑financial stakeholders and communicate complex information clearly.
  • Have demonstrable effective influencing skills at a senior level.
  • Is proactive, curious, and committed to continuous learning and improvement.
  • Thrives in a collaborative environment and takes pride in contributing to the success of a national organisation.
  • Significant experience in within relevant financial disciplines.
  • Understanding of project management principles and experience of managing complex projects.
  • Experience of Oracle based systems.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in finance and accounting or business management or experience.

  • Salary of £43,588‑£51,719 (Band 4C) depending on skills, qualifications and experience.
