Job summary

Dignus Group is seeking a Finance Assistant to support the Finance Manager with the day-to-day running of the finance function at our Central Office in Walsall.

This full-time role involves processing invoices, managing ledgers, assisting with payroll, and ensuring accurate financial records. The position offers up to £27,500 per year, 31 days holiday, pension, health plan, employee assistance and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

  • Experience in finance or accounts environments.
  • Experience with purchase/sales ledgers and credit control.
  • Proficient in Excel and basic IT skills.

Responsibilities

  • Process purchase invoices and ensure approvals per procedures.
  • Resolve supplier invoice queries and maintain supplier relations.
  • Prepare supplier payment runs and set up new supplier accounts.
  • Reconcile supplier statements and manage purchase ledger.
  • Raise sales invoices and support customer billing.
  • Assist with monthly payroll administration and statutory payments.
  • Maintain fixed asset register and perform month-end reconciliations.

As a Finance Assistant, you'll play an important role in ensuring our finance processes run smoothly, accurately and efficiently. Working as part of our Finance team, you'll support the day-to-day financial operations of the organisation, helping to ensure suppliers are paid on time, customer accounts are managed effectively, payroll information is processed accurately and financial records are maintained to a high standard.

What the role involves:

As a Finance Assistant, you'll support the Finance Manager with the day-to-day running of the finance function.

This includes:

  • Processing purchase invoices and ensuring they are approved in line with company procedures
  • Resolving supplier invoice queries and maintaining positive supplier relationships
  • Preparing supplier payment runs
  • Setting up new supplier accounts and maintaining accurate records
  • Reconciling supplier statements and managing the purchase ledger
  • Raising sales invoices and supporting accurate customer billing
  • Uploading invoices to customer portals where required
  • Chasing outstanding payments and maintaining accurate credit control records
  • Managing the sales ledger and allocating customer receipts
  • Supporting monthly payroll administration, including starters, leavers and contractual changes
  • Processing statutory payments and employee expenses
  • Processing weekly petty cash top-ups and reconciling returns
  • Maintaining the fixed asset register and processing additions, disposals and depreciation
  • Completing month-end balance sheet reconciliations
  • Maintaining accurate financial records and supporting month-end processes
  • Providing general administrative support to the Finance team and assisting with ad hoc finance tasks
Working pattern:

This is a full-time position based at our Central Office in Walsall.

You'll work closely with colleagues across the business, including Operational Managers, HR and the wider Finance team, helping to ensure financial processes are completed accurately and on time.

What we're looking for:

We welcome applications from experienced Finance Assistants, Accounts Assistants or individuals looking to build their career within finance.

You may be a great fit if you have:

  • Experience working within a finance or accounts environment
  • Good knowledge of purchase ledger, sales ledger and credit control processes
  • Experience using Sage or a similar finance system (desirable)
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and general IT skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • A positive, proactive and flexible approach to work
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information
  • You'll need a minimum of GCSE Grade C (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
  • An AAT Level 2 qualification (or equivalent) and previous experience within a finance team, particularly within the social care or healthcare sector, would be advantageous but not essential.
