Job summary

A leading media company in Peterborough is seeking a finance professional actively pursuing an accounting qualification to support key reporting functions. You will be responsible for analyzing editorial costs, preparing reports, and collaborating with stakeholders. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, experience with Excel and SAP, and the ability to communicate effectively across the finance team and wider business. Job description
Your Team:

Our Finance team has a large part to play in the success of our business. We are based across a few locations, but operate as one team, and work together to create a positive, productive and highly efficient finance department within News UK.

Day to day you will:
  • Weekly and Monthly reporting of Times Media Editorial costs
  • Variance analysis against budget and forecast
  • Completion of the monthly reporting, reconciling actual spend to management reporting and understanding as well as communicating the reason for any underspend or overspend
  • Preparation of budget and forecast for specific cost lines
  • Updating savings trackers
  • Preparation of weekly and monthly desk reports and going through them with the Times Media Finance Manager and desk heads
  • Preparation of other monthly reports or adhoc analysis (including headcount)
  • Balance sheet reconciliations and analysis for all Times Media Editorial accounts including the reporting of the movements to the Times Media and NGN FDs
  • Coding of Newswires invoices for all of Editorial
  • Support the wider team (Sales & Marketing and Editorial), provide cover for team members
What we’re looking for from you:

We’re looking for someone actively studying for a professional accounting qualification (ACCA or CIMA) and with experience. We want someone who really wants to make a difference. Some of the skills you will need include:

  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills, underpinned by system skills (Excel, TM1 & SAP)
  • Identifying risks - flagging any issues on a timely basis
  • Ability to manage complex reporting processes and perform data analysis on large and incomplete data sets, explaining trends and presenting conclusions to non-finance stakeholders
  • Proactively identifying opportunities for improvement, simplification and efficiencies
  • Able to demonstrate a good understanding of the Times Media titles and their key drivers
  • Enthusiasm and curiosity to ask questions and improve processes
  • Communicating effectively across a wide range of stakeholders including Finance Directors, Managing Editors Office and Times Media - Finance Manager
  • Effectively organising, prioritising and identifying key focus areas
  • Managing numbers reported in the P&A and key areas of risk on the balance sheet as well as flagging any risks or opportunities accordingly
  • Capable of working independently on own initiative and within a team environment
  • Able to demonstrate a good understanding of TheTimes Media brand
  • Develop effective relationships with finance colleagues and business stakeholders, ability to manage expectations and challenge existing thinking
