Job description

We're looking for a proactive and detail-driven Finance Analyst to join our friendly Central Finance team on a fixed-term contract of up to 15 months to cover a period of maternity leave.

In this role, you’ll play a key part in supporting our Southampton and Portsmouth sites, along with holding responsibility for selected central finance budgets. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, autonomy and making a real impact within a collaborative healthcare organisation.

You’ll be part of a supportive and welcoming finance community, working closely with Finance Managers, site teams and our wider Central Finance function. The role offers a great balance of independence and team connection; the finance team attends Head Office in Theale, Reading every Tuesday, and the rest of the week is remote, with very occasional site travel.

Main duties of the job
  • Support Finance Managers with month‑end reporting, preparing financial and non‑financial information, and producing variance analysis and commentary.
  • Prepare month‑end journals including accruals and prepayments.
  • Investigate and resolve variances against budget and forecast.
  • Maintain balance sheet control, reconciling relevant accounts accurately and on time.
  • Support quarterly forecasts and annual budget cycles for your operating units.
  • Prepare billing files, liaise with finance colleagues across Integrated Care Boards, and resolve queries.
  • Support and strengthen financial control processes across sites.
  • Assist with PO and invoice management processes, ensuring compliance and timely resolution of issues.
  • Provide information for internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Support external audit activity.
  • Collaborate closely with Finance Managers and central teams to deliver a high‑quality finance service.
About us
  • Experience working within a finance function and an understanding of financial processes.
  • Strong Excel and general Microsoft Office skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Clear and confident communication skills, able to explain financial information to non‑finance colleagues.
  • A proactive, solutions‑focused mindset and the ability to work independently.
  • A desire to make a meaningful impact and build strong business‑partnering relationships.
  • You will ideally be studying towards (or open to starting) a recognised accountancy qualification.

Desirable but not essential:

  • Experience in management or financial accounting.
  • Healthcare or NHS billing experience.
  • Strong commercial or analytical background.

What you can expect in return;

  • Salary of £40,000 per annum
  • A fixed‑term contract up to 15 months
  • An extensive range of wellbeing and lifestyle benefits
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
