Job description

Field Technical Delivery Specialist (North) Octopus Energy Manchester (GB)

Help us make a big green dent in the universe. We're on a mission to drive the global renewable energy revolution, and to help us make our vision a reality.

This could not be a better time to join Octopus Energy. We are already recognised as a global leader in the fight to decarbonise the planet by revolutionising what’s possible in energy - including investments in renewable energy supply, renewable energy generation, smart energy networks, EVs, heat pumps, etc. The government's new green initiatives and the recent investment by Al Gore’s Generation Fund will propel us further and faster.

We’re taking Tenant Power to the next level. We’ve moved past the early trial phase and are ready to scale things up.

Your mission in this role is to make sure our installations are consistent, super straightforward for installers, and transition smoothly from "ready to go" to fully live and running.

This is a hands-on, field-based role. You won’t be chained to a desk. Instead, you’ll spend plenty of time out on-site working alongside housing associations, third-party installers, suppliers, and our internal teams.

You’ll get to see how things actually work in the real world, help teams get it "right first time," and bring back practical site feedback to help us build better guides, training, and future plans.

Your main goal is keeping things running like clockwork. You’ll support our installers by helping them get a clear grip on:

  • The Blueprint: The approved Tenant Power design and kit requirements.

  • The Process: The installation sequence and what we need to see to sign it off.

  • The Finish Line: What’s required to get the data flowing and officially go live.

Just to keep things clear on who does what:

  • The Installers: They are independent contractors, usually chosen and hired directly by the housing association or delivery partner.

  • Octopus: We support the model by setting the technical standards, design rules, and go-live conditions.

  • The Responsibility: While we are there to guide them, the installers and the partners who hired them are still responsible for the actual site safety, compliance, workmanship, and final certifications.

What you'll do:
1. Hands-on on-site support
  • Get stuck in on-site: You’ll work side-by-side with installers during their first setups, live installs, and any troubleshooting runs. You'll help them master the Tenant Power design, meter setups, and what's needed for sign-off.

  • Bridge the gap: You'll collaborate with the OE Homes Delivery team to make sure our guides are actually useful on a busy site. This means making sure instructions for kit setups, battery/inverter wiring, meter placement, and data monitoring are crystal clear.

  • Set teams up for success: Before a single tool is lifted, you’ll help make sure the installers truly understand the technical requirements, approved kit lists, and platform guides so there are no surprises midway through.

2. Learning, improving, and scaling
  • Spot what works (and what doesn't): You’ll keep an eye out for what makes an install breeze through, as well as the hiccups that cause delays, missing data, or "installed-but-not-yet-live" limbo. You’ll use these insights to help us build a smoother, repeatable process.

  • Be the feedback loop: Keep track of common installer questions, repeating issues, or confusing instructions. You’ll feed this real-world feedback straight back to our design, training, and standards teams so we can keep improving.

  • Pick the right battles: Use your on-site knowledge to help prioritize which properties or batches are genuinely ready to go, ensuring we focus on the projects most likely to transition smoothly to live operation.

3. Collaboration and alignment
  • Empower our installers: Since they are independent contractors, your job is to coach them on our standards and design intent. You’ll help them confidently deliver high-quality work that matches our blueprint every time.

  • Bring everyone together: You'll act as the connector between housing associations, installers, supply chain, data, and delivery teams, helping to smooth out any friction points in the journey from "installed" to "live."

What you'll need:
  • proven experience supporting or delivering domestic solar PV and battery storage installations and necessary qualifications
  • Practical experience with battery commissioning, inverter setup, export settings and monitoring platforms;
  • Relevant electrical background or qualification, with current BS 7671 / 18th Edition knowledge or competence;
  • Ability to read approved designs, schematics, Bills of Materials and platform-specific installation guidance;
  • Strong practical problem-solving skills and the ability to turn site issues into clear feedback for design, training, data and delivery teams;
  • Willingness to travel regularly across the UK, including overnight stays where required
