Job summary

McHale Komatsu seeks experienced Field Service Engineers to join the Tungsten West site in Plymouth, working on heavy equipment. You will be based at a major customer site and provide hands-on technical expertise to keep machinery operating safely, reliably and efficiently.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 qualification in Plant Maintenance or equivalent.
• Experience servicing and repairing heavy plant, construction or mining equipment.
• Strong knowledge of engines, hydraulics, transmissions and auto-electrics.
• Good fault-finding, diagnostic skills and ability to work independently.
• Professional, dependable, customer-focused mindset with good IT skills.
• Willingness to work a range of shift patterns on a 24-hour site.

Responsibilities

• Attend machine breakdowns and complete effective repairs to minimise downtime.
• Carry out planned servicing and preventative maintenance.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic faults.
• Monitor machine performance and identify potential issues before they lead to failure.
• Deliver consistently high standards of workmanship and customer service.
• Work collaboratively with the customer’s site team and McHale Komatsu support departments.
• Complete service reports and other documentation accurately and on time.
• Maintain a safe, clean and professional working environment.
• Follow all company and site-specific health and safety procedures.

The Opportunity

As a Field Service Engineer based at Tungsten West, you’ll carry out servicing, maintenance, diagnostics and repairs across the machinery operating on site.

You’ll work closely with the customer and your McHale Komatsu colleagues to respond quickly to breakdowns, minimise downtime and ensure equipment continues to perform at its best.

As one of our representatives on site, you’ll combine strong technical ability with a professional and customer‑focused approach.

Key Responsibilities

What We’re Looking For

• An NVQ Level 3 qualification in Plant Maintenance, or an equivalent engineering qualification.
• Experience servicing and repairing heavy plant, construction, mining, agricultural or similarly complex equipment.
• Strong knowledge of engines, hydraulics, transmissions and auto‑electrics.
• Confident fault‑finding and diagnostic skills.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a site‑based team.

• Good communication and IT skills.
• Flexibility to work a range of shift patterns as part of a 24‑hour site operation.
