Job summary

SMT GB is seeking a Field Service Engineer - Road Equipment to service and repair Dynapac road construction equipment across the South of England.

You will work independently with support from a wider team, travelling across a large territory to maximise machine uptime and deliver an exceptional customer experience.

Join a dedicated Customer Support team and contribute to high-quality service delivery while developing your technical and commercial skills.

Qualifications

• Recognised engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3/City & Guilds or equivalent) in Plant, Agricultural, Construction Equipment or HGV Engineering.
• Proven experience servicing and repairing heavy plant, construction equipment, or similar mobile equipment.
• Strong diagnostic skills across mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems.
• Good understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, transmissions and electrical systems.
• Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical information clearly.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to work independently.
• Good IT skills and experience completing electronic service documentation.

Responsibilities

• Service, maintain and repair Dynapac road construction equipment to OEM standards.
• Diagnose and rectify mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults.
• Carry out planned maintenance, inspections and breakdown repairs.
• Identify opportunities for additional service, parts and aftermarket sales.
• Work with Customer Support and internal teams to deliver excellent outcomes.
• Install software updates, machine enhancements and technical modifications.
• Complete electronic job cards, service reports, timesheets and docs in real time.
• Order and manage parts following company processes.
• Participate in call-out and breakdown support rotas when required.
• Ensure safe work per company policies and procedures.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with customers across the territory.
• Attend training to maintain knowledge and skills.

Location: Field Based, South of England (covering the South West, South East, South Coast and extending into the Midlands. Occasional support may be required in other regions across the UK to meet business and customer needs.)

We're looking for an experienced Field Service Engineer - Road Equipment to join our growing Customer Support team. Covering a large territory across the South of England, you'll be responsible for servicing, maintaining and repairing Dynapac road construction equipment at customer sites, ensuring maximum machine uptime and delivering an exceptional customer experience.

This role offers the opportunity to work independently while being supported by a wider team of technical experts, Customer Support Representatives and managers. You'll combine strong technical expertise with a customer‑focused and commercially aware approach, helping customers maximise the performance of their equipment.

What You'll Be Doing

• Service, maintain and repair Dynapac road construction equipment to OEM standards.
• Diagnose and rectify mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults.

What You'll Bring

Comfortable working independently across a large geographical territory, you’ll possess strong diagnostic and problem‑solving abilities and take pride in delivering high‑quality work. You’ll also be flexible and willing to travel extensively, including providing occasional support in other UK regions when business needs require.

Essential
