Job summary

A technical recruitment firm is looking for a Field Service Engineer (CNC) to support CNC machines across Scotland and the North of England. The role involves diagnosing, repairing, and servicing CNC lathes, along with various mechanical and electrical tasks, ensuring seamless operations on customer sites. Qualifications

  • Proven CNC field service background (both mechanical and electrical).

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair and service CNC lathes and machining centres on customer sites.
  • Install, decommission and recommission machinery; full re-alignments.
  • Mechanical work: ball screw installations, spindle replacements, general repairs, PPM.
  • Electrical work: interpret wiring diagrams, safety circuits, VFD/automation basics.
  • PLC-level troubleshooting and fault-finding using diagnostics (FANUC, Siemens, etc.).
  • Perform Renishaw ballbar testing and document results.
  • Read drawings/schematics; order OEM or third-party parts as required.
  • Complete accurate service reports, parts usage and customer sign-off.
  • Travel across Scotland/North England; occasional UK/international trips.

Education

Time-served apprenticeship (mechanical or electrical) or equivalent experience

Location: Scotland-based (ideally Central Belt); cover Scotland and North of England, with occasional travel further afield

Salary: £35,000-£40,000 DOE OTE: £50,000+ achievable (per hiring manager)

Vehicle: Company van provided; fuel covered

Tech: CNC lathes and machining centres; controls: FANUC, Siemens, Heidenhain, Mitsubishi

Tools: Company laptop and mobile (calls/texts covered)

Overtime & Pay: Door-to-door paid. Weekdays & Saturdays x1.5. Sundays x2. Travel time OT paid at hourly rate

Holidays: 32 days (incl. bank holidays)

Pension: Company scheme (after 3 months)

Start: Immediate start preferred; minimal handover/training
