Qualifications

Field Service Engineer

Location: Within approx. 50 minutes of Peterborough (UK-wide travel required)

Salary: £43,000-£45,000 per annum

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00-17:00 (flexible working based on 44-hour week)

Overview

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Field Service Engineer to join a growing engineering team. This role combines hands‑on technical work with customer interaction, offering a mix of on‑site service and field‑based support. You'll be responsible for maintaining and repairing automated equipment used in high‑speed production environments, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum efficiency for our clients. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys variety—travelling across the UK, working on different sites, and occasionally spending time at the main hub for training and team collaboration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical faults on automated production machinery.
  • Carry out scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance to minimise breakdowns.
  • Install and relocate equipment as part of factory layout changes or new line setups.
  • Perform safety checks and compliance inspections on machinery.
  • Communicate directly with customers to understand requirements and provide technical solutions.
  • Prepare accurate service reports and maintain records of work completed.
  • Order and manage spare parts as needed for repairs and installations.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and performance.
Qualifications
  • Previous experience working with automated machinery in a manufacturing or FMCG environment (food industry experience highly desirable).
  • Strong fault‑finding skills across mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • A proactive approach with great attention to detail.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel nationwide (occasional overnight stays required).
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in engineering (or relevant experience).
  • Familiarity with packaging, weighing, or processing equipment is an advantage.
