Job summary

A leading recruitment agency is seeking a Field Service Engineer in Tyseley to service and maintain specialist vehicles across customer sites. Candidates should have NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance, strong diagnostic skills, and excellent customer service abilities. Flexible working hours available.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Field Service Engineer, HGV Mechanic, or Workshop Engineer.
  • Knowledge of vehicle technology systems and compliance standards.
  • Competent with basic computer systems and technical documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair faults on vehicle chassis and mounted equipment.
  • Perform servicing and maintenance to a high standard.
  • Prepare vehicles for MOT inspections and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Use diagnostic tools and software to identify and resolve technical issues.
  • Accurately record all work using PDA software.

Job description

Do you take pride in fixing problems and helping customers get back on the road? Our client is looking for a hands‑on, customer focused Field Service Engineer to join their team!

You’ll be out and about, servicing, repairing, and maintaining specialist vehicles across customer sites and company workshops.

Hours: 45 hours per week | between 08:00 and 17:30 | Monday to Friday | Flexible working hours available

What You’ll Do
  • Diagnose and repair faults on vehicle chassis and mounted equipment
  • Perform servicing and maintenance to a high standard
  • Prepare vehicles for MOT inspections and ensure compliance with Department of Transport regulations
  • Use diagnostic tools and software to identify and resolve technical issues
  • Accurately record all work using PDA software and maintain service documentation
  • Travel to customer sites across the UK — occasionally at short notice
  • Maintain a safe, tidy, and professional working environment
  • Communicate effectively with customers, delivering exceptional service and support
  • Follow all health and safety procedures and complete risk assessments as required
What We’re Looking For
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance
  • Previous experience as a Field Service Engineer, HGV Mechanic, or Workshop Engineer
  • Strong diagnostic and fault‑finding abilities
  • Knowledge of vehicle technology systems and compliance standards
  • Self‑motivated and confident working independently
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Flexible with travel and working hours
  • Competent with basic computer systems and technical documentation
  • (Desirable) Experience with electric vehicles, IRTEC qualification, or HGV Class 2 licence
