Job summary

A leading engineering firm is seeking a Field Service Engineer in the Northeast/Scotland area. This role involves mechanical work and supporting electrical tasks, with requirements including a minimum of 2 years' experience in engineering and a Level 3 qualification. Occasional travel and overnight stays are expected. Competitive salary package offered.

Job description
Field Service Engineer – Packaging Machinery

£35,000 - £40,000 (DOE) + Company Vehicle + Benefits

Location

Northeast/Scotland (travel required around Northeast & Scotland – typically 1 customer site visit per day). Occasional overnight stays (around 2 nights per week).

Responsibilities

Carrying out mechanical work such as replacing bolts, nuts, chains, pulleys, gearboxes, sprockets, and working with pneumatics/hydraulics.

Supporting electrical tasks including motors, drives, relays, pumps, cylinders, and inverters.

Fault finding on PLC's; interpreting electrical and mechanical schematics.

Diagnosing and resolving faults with minimal supervision and delivering outstanding service and building rapport with customers.

Key Requirements
  • 2+ years' experience in mechanical or electrical engineering (packaging experience preferred but not essential).
  • Solid knowledge of mechanical systems, including pneumatics or hydraulics.
  • Competent in basic electrical engineering – including 1‑phase and 3‑phase.
  • Experience of fault finding on PLC's.
  • Engineering qualification Level 3 or higher (electrical or mechanical discipline).
  • A self‑motivated team player comfortable with UK‑wide travel.
  • A positive attitude and ambition to grow with the company.
Ongoing Training and Development

Up‑skilling on PLCs and systems available.
