Role Description

The Field Sales Lead (UK & Ireland) is responsible for developing, leading, and executing both strategic and tactical business plans for the Optics, Pharmacy & Eye Health channels across the UK & Ireland as well as the GP/Hospital Rx environment in Ireland. This senior leader drives national sales performance in the UK & Ireland, building a winning Go To Market strategy for all the field teams in the division. Responsible for ensuring consistent execution across all the field teams. The role requires a motivational individual who is comfortable influencing executive stakeholders, collaborating cross-functionally, and fostering a culture of high performance, innovation and continuous improvement.

The Field Sales Lead is accountable for the recruitment, development, and management of all regional sales managers and their teams, ensuring the achievement of all business KPIs and compliance with company standards.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive national field sales strategy aligned with overall business objectives.
  • Lead and manage all regional sales managers, ensuring alignment with national goals and consistent execution across regions.
  • Drive overall field sales performance, setting and monitoring KPIs to ensure targets are met or exceeded.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership team / department heads to align field sales initiatives with broader organisational strategy.
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration with marketing, product, and operations teams to enhance customer engagement and market penetration.
  • Provide regular performance reporting and strategic insights to senior leadership.
Business & Tactical Planning
  • Oversee the design and implementation of sales tactics, plans, and procedures to maximise sales revenue & profitability.
  • Ensure robust business plans are in place at all levels, with quarterly reviews and course corrections as needed.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with commercial and marketing plans, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure segmentation of customer account panels is optimised nationally for maximum impact and is aligned with the National Account strategy as well.
People Management
  • Lead the recruitment, development, promotion, and performance management of all field sales teams.
  • Establish clear performance and behavioural expectations and manage through the Performance and Development Review process (PDR).
  • Champion a culture of recognition, coaching, mentoring and constructive feedback.
  • Develop and implement effective reward systems focused on significant contributions to business success.
  • Ensure remote and field-based teams are engaged, connected and valued.
Customer & Account Focus
  • Oversee support for key accounts, working closely with National Account Lead (UK & Ireland)
  • Lead planning and implementation of product launches, campaigns, and divisional strategy.
  • Ensure CRM and sales enablement tools are embedded and utilised effectively across all teams.
Market & Product Knowledge
  • Maintain expert awareness of market trends, competitor environment, and regulatory changes.
  • Analyse sales statistics and market information, providing recommendations for strategic decision-making.
  • Partner with Marketing and L&D teams to ensure field force is equipped with up-to-date product and technical knowledge.
Innovation & Change
  • Drive adoption of innovative sales technologies and methodologies to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Work closely with Commercial department on key change initiative and instil a continuous improvement culture within Field Sales.
  • Lead change management initiatives to support business transformation and growth including Value Selling & infinity sales process.
Self-Development & Leadership
  • Model continuous learning and personal development, seeking feedback and acting on development areas.
  • Take part in all company training activities and role model a culture of improvement.
Administration & Compliance
  • Ensure all administrative tasks are completed accurately and on time, holding teams accountable.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • University degree qualification or equivalent in a related field – desirable
  • Holder of a current full driving licence.
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Proven second line leadership experience in leading national sales teams with a track record of exceeding revenue targets, is preferred.
  • Strong strategic thinking and planning capabilities with the ability to translate vision into actionable plans.
