Job description
Field Officer Grade 1-2 (Casual)

Location: Gloucester. Salary: $30.84 - $33.85 per hour depending on experience, casual loading.

About the role

NPWS seeks a part‑time casual Field Officer to support conservation of natural environment, flora/fauna, and Aboriginal heritage.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist with construction maintenance and improvements to park assets within NPWS parks and reserves.
  • Maintain heritage buildings and structures.
  • Undertake pest, weed and fire management activities, including remote areas.
  • Operate and maintain plant and equipment.
  • Respond to visitor enquiries and support compliance activities.
  • Service camping and Day Use Areas.
  • Contribute to ensuring obligations and aims are met through enhancement and preservation of natural and cultural heritage.
  • Assist in completion of works programs to ensure public access to safely maintained recreational facilities.
About you

We look for candidates studying or semi‑retired, with experience in outdoor work, passionate about community and environment.

Requirements:

  • Current Australian Class C Driver’s licence or equivalent; ability to drive 4WD vehicles.
  • Ability to obtain and use MR licence where appropriate.
  • SafeWork NSW certifications to operate and maintain plant and equipment; willingness to obtain First Aid.
  • Certification within probationary period to operate chainsaw; ability to use two‑way radio.
  • Frontline firefighting duties and support roles; ability to maintain certification as crew member; willingness to fly light aircraft.
  • Physically active and fit; able to work outdoors, team player, able to work alone or with minimal supervision.

Additional qualifications:

  • Firefighting medical clearance, task‑based fitness assessment to moderate level within 12 months and annually thereafter.
