A recruitment agency is seeking an electrically skilled engineer to join a leading team in Swindon, covering field installations and maintenance of fixed gas detection systems. The role offers structured training, travel requirements, and a competitive salary between £35,000 and £38,000 per annum. We are seeking an electrically skilled engineer for our client based both at their workshop in Swindon and in the field covering Oxford, Reading, Swindon and surrounding areas. This is a full-time permanent role with no sift working. The hours of work are Monday – Thursday 08:00–16:30 and Friday 08:30–15:30.
Established over 45 years ago, our client works with companies across the UK and Ireland to help them protect the health of employees within their workplace by monitoring environmental conditions. They offer reliable gas detection equipment as a critical safety element, working across both private and public sectors. Their customers range from SMEs to some of the world’s most recognisable brands in construction, offshore, motorsport, museums and more.
This position presents a unique opportunity to join a friendly team as a valued member within a company at the forefront of Fixed Gas Detection (FGD) technology. You will receive structured training, long-term progression and the chance to work on advanced safety systems across diverse sites. The wide-ranging B2B customer base includes SMEs through to some of the world’s most recognisable brands from construction to offshore motorsport to museums.
As part of this role you will look after customers who need permanently installed systems operating 24/7 to monitor a variety of gas risks. The team’s remit includes initial site surveys, system design, installation, commissioning, handover and ongoing servicing and maintenance.
You will work onsite and spend time in the workshop in Swindon, managing your own daily schedule fully supported by an in‑house team. The role requires travelling within the UK and overnight stays may be required; accommodation will be provided.
We are seeking a candidate with experience in Service and Maintenance Engineering, ideally with a background in Burglar Fire Alarm Systems, building management systems, and a good understanding of cabling infrastructure. Preferably you have experience in fixed gas detection installation and maintenance; however we will also consider someone in a similar role with transferable electrical competence. A full driving licence is required.
This is a full‑time permanent position. Working hours are Monday – Thursday 08:00–16:30 and Friday 08:30–15:30. The salary is competitive and the package will include a company van, fuel card, overtime, expense account and accommodation when overnight stays are required.
