Job summary

Hamilton Barnes is seeking a Field Services Technician (Nights) to take hands-on ownership of installation, maintenance and repair of fare collection and payment infrastructure across an established London network.

You will attend planned and reactive jobs, work independently within safety/regulatory guidelines, and use a tablet-based system to report work and manage stock. Progression to lead roles is available.

Qualifications

• Qualified Electrical, Mechanical, or Electronic engineering
• At least 3 years engineering experience
• Full UK driving licence with up to 6 points
• Night shift experience preferred
• Willingness to work in a regulated rail environment (drugs/alcohol testing)

Responsibilities

• Carry out fault finding, repair, and preventative maintenance on transport and gate systems.
• Attend planned and reactive jobs across the London network using a tablet-based job system.
• Work independently while following safety and compliance procedures.
• Accurately complete job reports and manage allocated stock and equipment.
• Participate in team briefings and occasional depot visits when required.

Job title: Field Services Technician (Nights)

A well-established transportation technology provider, supplying fare collection and payment systems to public transit authorities across the UK and internationally, is expanding its field operations team to support a growing base of live deployments.

This is a Field Technician role with genuine hands-on ownership over installation, maintenance, and repair of ticketing and payment infrastructure across an existing network of transit sites, in a business that is scaling its service delivery rather than starting from scratch.

Skills / Must Have:

• A recognised qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, or Electronic engineering, required to work on rail infrastructure.
• At least 3 years engineering experience, ensuring you can work independently without extensive supervision.
• Full UK driving licence with no more than 6 points, allowing you to operate a company vehicle safely.
• Previous night shift experience if applying for night roles, so the shift pattern is a known and sustainable choice.
• Willingness to work in a regulated rail environment, including drug and alcohol testing requirements.

Nice to Have:

• Strong mechanical experience with motors, gears, belts, and pulleys, which closely matches the systems worked on.
• Background in transport, white goods, vending, parking systems, or fare collection equipment.
• Ex-military engineering experience, particularly for candidates comfortable with responsibility, structure, and shift work.
