Your New Role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Field Engineer to join our TSIC account in Cumbernauld. This will be an on-site, mobile role working on Highways in the Central Belt.

The Field Engineer plays an important part in undertaking reactive and planned maintenance, installation, and commissioning works on highways control technology installations throughout Scotland. This includes CCTV, Traffic Monitoring Units, Variable Message Signs, Emergency Telephones, and other installation and outstation electronic and communications equipment, mainly motorway based.

The standard hours of work are 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday.

Our TSIC account has been working in partnership with Traffic Scotland on behalf of Transport for Scotland since 2004. We are responsible for operating, maintaining, and upgrading the motorway and trunk road technology infrastructure across Scotland.

With over 12,000 intelligent transport system (ITS) assets across Scotland, our teams operate and maintain variable messaging signs, CCTV, emergency roadside telephones (ERTs), and various power and communication cabinets.

Additionally, we manage and maintain hundreds of miles of motorway and trunk road network, and provide consultancy services such as asset management, design, and environmental management.

Our focus is on delivering reliable journey times and high customer care for road users.

The Field Engineer will be responsible for:

1. Installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical, control, and communications installations according to regulations and manufacturer’s recommendations. Responding to urgent failures.
2. Electrical testing and inspection to BS7671 standards, and issuing certification.
3. Updating schematic diagrams and as-built records.
4. Performing highway electrical maintenance, including routine and cyclic tasks.
5. Ensuring health and safety compliance and keeping records of all activities.
6. Communicating effectively with colleagues, subcontractors, emergency services, police, the public, clients, and customers.

What makes this role unique is that you will be part of a multidisciplinary team providing frontline maintenance to ensure the availability and safety of roadside technology assets. You must hold a valid driving licence.

Ideally, you will have a certificate in an electronic/electrical discipline and vocational qualifications in electrotechnical or telecommunications fields. Field installation and servicing experience are desirable but not essential, as training will be provided.
