Ideal candidates will have a practical mechanical engineering background, preferably apprentice trained, and demonstrate strong technical skills with fuel injection systems. Job Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Development Research Technician to join our Caterpillar team.

The role is based in our Europe Research & Development Centre at the Caterpillar Business Park Peterborough UK.

Job Responsibilities and Duties
  • Review and champion the Organisations health and safety policy and safe working practices.
  • Adhere to Caterpillars Values in Action: Integrity Commitment Excellence Teamwork & Sustainability.
  • Follow documented standard work procedures / instructions using various hand power tools and lifting equipment provided in the work area.
  • Assist engineers in conducting technical investigations of current and future product working predominantly with engine components or systems to validate for performance and durability.
  • Operate test equipment and conduct investigation as directed by an engineer to obtain, analyse and summarise data.
  • Record evaluation results in appropriate form (curves, charts, tables, sketches, photographs) with the appropriate tools (hardcopy, software, etc.) to engineer for inclusion in technical reports. Depending on experience and demonstrated skills may handle limited objective moderately complex jobs without engineers guidance.
  • Technicians will be expected to have direct contact with components working in the lab and with test rigs; observing operating and testing the product or component together with recording of various test data measurement points.
  • A practical mechanical engineering background ideally apprentice trained is preferred.
  • Keep the work area clean, tidy and safe in line with 5S and total preventative maintenance (TPM).
  • Undertake training and further learning as required.
Skills and Experience
  • Ability to operate a Fuel injection System Bench such as a Bosch EPS 815 or Hartridge 2560.
  • Ability to operate a Fuel injection Component Bench such as a Hartridge CRi-Pro.
  • Technical understanding of a DEF injection system.
  • Capability of controlling equipment and Rig calibration.
  • Technical lead for guiding apprentices and new staff within the area.
  • Ability to assess, modify and improve departmental instructions / procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to liaise with various levels of the organisation.
  • Ability to coordinate work within the team.
  • Ability to set up various tests on either a bench or test rig following procedures and schematics for fluid flow and measurement with flow meters and pressure transducers.
  • Intermediate experience of Microsoft Excel, Word & Powerpoint.
  • Applicants will have a practical mechanical engineering background ideally apprentice trained.
