Job summary

Occuity Ltd., based in Reading, is seeking a Fibre Splicer Technician to support in-house fabrication of precision fibre assemblies for medical products. Under supervision, you will inspect, test and prepare components, bond, polish and perform fusion splicing, recording results accurately.

Qualifications

• Entry-level role requiring strong manual dexterity.
• Ability to read procedures and technical drawings.
• Experience with fibre handling and termination preferred.
• Familiarity with optical test equipment.
• Awareness of ISO 13485 or similar quality standards.
• Competent IT skills and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Prepare optical fibres for termination (stripping, cleaving, cleaning).
• Prepare sub-assemblies for splicing (cutting, stripping, cleaving, cleaning).
• Perform fusion splicing according to established protocols and instructions.
• Test and inspect completed assemblies and record results accurately.
• Assemble, route, and terminate fibre components for device builds.
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain splicing equipment and test instruments.
• Maintain documentation and uphold health and safety practices.
• Support R&D, production and quality teams with build/test evidence.
• Contribute to updating quality management procedures.
