This is a role as a Female Support Worker (Days) at Walcott House, a Learning Disability and Autism service in Bognor Regis, West Sussex. The job involves providing care and support to individuals with a range of learning disabilities, including Autism and sensory and communication impairments, to help them lead a full and valued life and live more independently. The role requires empathy, compassion, excellent communication skills, and the ability to deal with challenging behaviors.

Main duties of the job

As a Female Support Worker, you will join an inclusive, supportive team that works together to provide care and support to people with Learning Disabilities and Mental Health conditions. You will use your knowledge, skills, and experience as a Support Worker with a background in Learning Disabilities & Autism to help people lead a valued and fulfilled life. This includes using your excellent communication skills to provide care, supporting individuals through their care pathway, and dealing with challenging behaviors in a positive and professional manner.

JoininWalcott Houseas a Female Night Support Worker and provide care for people withsevere Learning Disabilities, Autism and behaviours may be seen as challenging;where you’ll support andencourage them to lead a full and valued life, enabling them to live more independently.

You’ll be great with people – a real ‘people person’, able to communicate effectively – explaining yourself clearly in the right tone to suit the situation and be really good at understanding others (behaviours and expressions, as well as vocal). Having a good sense of humour and resilience, and a willingness to help residents with their personal hygiene are also important.

We are exclusively recruiting for female staff only due to the needs of our female residents.

What you will be doing:

You will join an inclusive, supportive team that works well together to provide care to people with Learning Disabilities and Mental Health conditions. Whether you have experience as a Care Assistant or Support Worker, you will use your knowledge and skills to help support people lead a valued and fulfilled life.

Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, you will use your excellent communication skills and experience as a Support Worker with a background in Learning Disabilities & Autism to provide care and support people through their care pathway. It can be quite a challenging environment at times, so a positive attitude, compassion, resilience and vigilance are important. But it is hugely rewarding to see people improve because of you; being able to do something today that they couldn’t do last week.

You will work night shifts, on rota, 3 shifts on and 3 shifts off. Permanent, 36.75 weekly hours, full-time contract.

In this role you will:

  • Hold a valid UK driving licence (preferred to assist with community visits)
  • Have strong empathy and a caring and compassionate nature
  • Be willing to support residents with personal hygiene
  • Have excellent people and communication skills, and a good sense of humour
  • Deal with challenging behaviours
  • Have a positive and professional approach
  • Be reliable, flexible, hard-working and honest
  • Be local or within commutable distance

You must live in the UK and have the Right to Work in the UK full time.20-hour Student and Skilled Worker Visa's cannot be accepted.

You will be working at Walcott House, aLearning Disability and Autismservicewhichprovides a specialist residential service for men and women with a range of Learning Disabilities, including Autism and sensory and communication impairments.

The aim of the service is to encourage individuals to lead a full and valued life, enabling them to live more independently through a programme of active community engagement, developing meaningful social networks and developing robust coping strategies.
