Location: Old Colwyn, Conwy

Rate of pay: £14.80 per hour

About me:

I am looking for a reliable long‑term personal assistant/support worker to support me in my home in Old Colwyn, Conwy, paying close attention to my dignity. I am a friendly and sociable adult lady, a full‑time wheelchair user living with fibromyalgia and cerebral palsy, and I currently live with my family in a non‑smoking household. I have a friendly pet dog in the home and enjoy socialising; I go to the local library to attend groups, and also to craft clubs in my local area. I am looking for a female personal assistant with excellent verbal communication skills to support me with my morning personal care. Experience in a similar role or caring for a family member/friend is essential – please demonstrate this on your application. A training course in manual handling will need to be completed before starting the role at no cost to you, so we welcome applicants who are willing to learn. Further training courses in dignity, first aid and infection control may be required once you are in the role, and these will all be funded for you.

Task and duties, to include any or all the following:
  • Supervising/supplying assistance for getting out of bed and into my wheelchair on required days.
  • Allowing time for my muscles to wake up properly.
  • Disposing of incontinence pads.
  • Stripping wet bedding, placing it in the washing machine, wiping the mattress and reapplying clean bedding.
  • Cleaning traces of incontinence, mopping floors if required – ensuring the bedroom remains tidy.
  • Assisting with being hoisted into the bath using a ceiling hoist, bathing, washing my body, removing hair when required, and turning onto my stomach in the bath for health benefits. I can be left alone during this time and other tasks can be carried out.
  • Washing and drying my hair every other day.
  • Supporting the drying of my skin, applying creams and dressing into clothes.
  • Supervising/supporting me to sit back in the wheelchair (manual handling training will be provided prior to your start date).
  • Changing my catheter bag once a week.
  • Any other duties not listed that fall within the scope of this role should be discussed and then mutually agreed.
  • Undertaking any further training, as mutually agreed.
What you can expect from me:
  • A safe, friendly, and welcoming workplace where you will be valued.
  • Flexibility with working hours.
  • Supervision and support.
  • Access to training and learning opportunities.
  • 5.6 weeks annual leave (pro‑rata).
  • Competitive rates of pay.
  • Knowing that you make a difference to my quality of life.
The kind of person I am looking for is someone who:
  • Promotes and supports confidence.
  • Is a non‑smoker due to my health conditions.
  • Can perform basic cleaning skills such as mopping.
  • Has a person‑centred approach and a genuine interest in supporting people to achieve their goals.
  • Can follow instructions and will establish a professional standard of care with dignity, always maintained.
  • Will not use their personal mobile phone at work unless in an emergency.
  • Is trustworthy, kind, punctual and reliable.
  • Is patient, supportive with good listening skills, and provides non‑judgmental emotional support.
  • Maintains confidentiality and respects the privacy of the family, including the prohibited use of social media in relation to this role.
  • Can work flexibly, adapting to the variable requirements of this role as required.

The role is dependent upon a DBS and 2 references.

We are not able to offer sponsorship, so proof of Right to Work in the UK is essential.
