Job summary

A support service organization in Newcastle upon Tyne is looking for a male or female support worker to assist a client in accessing the community and engaging in various activities. The role is part-time (12 hours per week) with flexible scheduling, including weekends and school holidays. Experience in mental health is preferred. The position does not involve personal care but requires empathetic engagement with the client.

Qualifications

Overview

Hours: 12 hours per week. Flexibility is required and days to be arranged must be available during school holidays and weekends.

Area: Fenham, Newcastle Upon Tyne

Rate: £13.75 per hour

Responsibilities
  • Work with the client on shift to support her to access the community and enjoy activities of her choice.
  • Accompany the client to scheduled appointments and assist with some cooking and food preparation within the home. There is no personal care involved in this role.
  • Support the client with domestic chores independently; day-to-day housekeeping is not required.
  • Promote the client’s independence while being responsive to her needs, including prompting and supporting her when she is reclusive and respecting her wishes when she prefers to be alone.
  • Engage with the client’s interests (e.g., activities outside the home such as bingo, theatre trips, cinema, bowling; listening to music; interest in 50s-70s music) and participate in sociable activities as appropriate.
  • Be prepared to participate in social activities with the client, including dancing and singing as appropriate.
  • Follow structured plans to support and monitor the client’s mental health if required; details will be discussed if the applicant is successful.
  • Understand the client’s current support from the Mental Health Team and assist in maintaining her independence in the home environment.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Experience in the Mental Health sector and experience supporting individuals with a history of mental health issues and substance misuse is preferred.
  • There is a genuine occupational requirement for the holder of this post to be male/female in accordance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 and Equality Act 2010 Schedule 9 paragraphs 1 – 4.
  • At the time of starting employment, the successful candidate must have permission to work in the U.K.
